Modifications to PAL gun to be non-pal

this is hilarious, so you purchased the air pistol totally legal, it was sold in Canada and under 500fps, not sure what you are asking, you know modifying it to shoot well over 500fps is not legal and you are or are not going to modify it but if you give it to someone after modifying it they can get in serious ####, well first you say you are not going to modify it but the person you could give it to can, its no longer your problem.

Im sure most air guns can be modified but if you want one over 500fps just go buy one, so simple

I thought about this some more, and you can easily add a spring to a spring powered rifle and be over the 500 fps mark, so I suppose it is the same thing. Only reason I am concerned, is I want to use it for grouse hunting in the fall, so potentially I could run into a CO. If that occurs I want to make sure I am legal in any way possible.

And I have used a under 500 air gun for grouse hunting before, it kills them just fine.
You might want to double check the hunting regulations
- In my next of the wood, you can only hunt small games with a PAL rated airgun
- In Canada, you can only hunt with non-restricted firearms... yah, I know, the rules are stupid... but right now, that's what we have to play with.

If you ask me, that would be a pretty darn silly thing to do.

They were detuned and imported in Canada as legal. You mod it thus you break the laws. It isn't the guns fault.

All you are doing is giving police reasons to ban them and having the importer hate you for throwing other owners under the bus.

Because adding another screw that requires a tool to adjust the first isnt going to be enough.

I wouldn’t be modding any air pistol to go over 500 fps nor would I be talking about it on a public forum. You do NOT want to be out grouse hunting and caught with a restricted handgun. If the gun was to be taken for testing by police and found it could be easily modded to exceed the limit you could still be in trouble. There was a thread on the Canadian Airgun forum similar to this where the police claimed ā€œwe can make it shoot over 500 fpsā€.

Reading comprehension seems to be an issue here. My point is, I purchased this gun as a under 500 fps handgun, which is 100% legal to own and shoot. You can also hunt upland game with one as well (shot all my grouse last year with a under 500 fps gun).

I have not modified this gun in any way, but I obviously mess around with my guns and on the breech there is a set screw, messing around with it, I notice changes velocity. A quick Google confirms that it is a adjustable transfer port that is accessible without removing anything from the gun. Seems far to easy to adjust was my point as you can thread it out with a Allan wrench.

It's not like I am taking the gun apart and adjusting regulators or hammer springs. I want to use it for hunting as its small and quiet, which makes it handy for long hikes hunting birds in often rough terrain.

Really up to you to make sure you are within the laws.

Manual would tell you what the screw is.

Man the people on this forum LOVE looking for rules to bury themselves under.

that being said the modification must also allow the gun to shoot over 500 FPS and have a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules (4.2 foot-pounds) to be classified as firearms and require a Possession and Acquisition Licence

To be clear, this model is widely sold here as a under 500 fps air pistol. I currently have it set for under 500 fps. However (if you watch some videos on this model) you can adjust a screw and it will shoot far over the 500 fps mark. I plan to lock the screw down with another set screw, just hoping this is sufficient. It would be a Restricted pistol with the screw up. I do have a RPAL, but I have no desire for a restricted air pistol. Maybe I am overthinking this, I guess it is similar to a rivet in a magazine, you can easily remove it as well.
Better smash the thing to pieces quickly, just to be safe and not break any laws.

We discovered the same thing on some widely-available air pistols as kids. I'm pretty sure something would've been done about it by now if they considered it a priority.

Ahh, Schrodinger's gat, it's simultaneously legal and illegal until you tell us the model and collapse the wave function šŸ˜‚

in the world there are likely hundreds of things perfectly legal to buy but mixing or modifying will get you in trouble, so what if the screw changes the velocity, you said its OK as it sits and under 500fps, works as you want and you are not needing more velocity so what is your point?

if it works leave it Im curious if the are pistol is legal for hunting? in 50 years never come across anyone hunting with a air pistol and not sure a CO would be happy with using it
