Modified Marlin 45-70s. Space age and Tacticool!

The black gun is fine but the stuff done to the SS gun is for what purpose!? All the flutes do to the receiver is weaken it. The same for the lever; only the barrel flutes make any sense to me.

Bling, bling... not my cuo o' tea!! Sorry but I hate it... my bad!!

It's too bad there wasn't a way you could put a set of "spinner's" on the trigger guard of that silver one. You could have them so they would fold down when you were ready to shoot. That would be Coool....

Looking at those pics again I have to admit those barrel flutes actually scare me a bit. Hopefully one of our resident gunsmiths will pipe up but those flutes seem awful deep for a barrel with as thin a wall as those found on the Marlin 45-70s

The weight change on the SS model is nothing short of shocking. It feels like a toy. Something on the order of a pound and a half. The fluting on the receiver is away from the stress bearing areas, so no problem. The gun plumber did an awesome job.

These are the guns that we pack in the bush, left, right and center.

I'm a pussy, so no ultra-light, short barreled stomper for me. Just a light to help me locate things that go growl in the night.

These are both utility guns. The guy who owns the SS is a bit more weight conscious than I am when it comes to his gear. Neither of us is going to go up there with a rifle we haven't practiced with. He's not recoil sensitive at all, so he lightened his gun up radically. I am recoil sensitive, so longer barrel and more weight for me! If you've ever had a bear stroll through your campsite at night, the utility of a weaponlight is undeniable. These are guns that have been optimized for their users and intended tasks: Getting carried through some of the most beautiful wild places on earth, by people who don't leave a trace of their passing, making sure the people holding them are at the top of the local food chain.

For you guys that like the pics, cheers. For you guys that don't: Cheers!

Bartledan, how was the flashlight mount done on the magazine tube? Is it permanent or can you remove it if needed? Was the magazine tube integrity affected? Does the mount touch the barrel? Wondering about this as it could affect barrel harmonics -> point of aim as a result.

Thanks!

That's the spirit!! Like who cares what us naysayers say anyways.

If it wasn't you, it would be Win94 anyways. Gotta torture someone. :D

I'll never badmouth anyones opinion of guns and what they like. But I have to admit, I have my apprenhensions. The reciever fluting looks like it took alot of metal pff. I'd be somewhat scared to shoot it. And if you were interested in my opinion, which your probably not, I'm not such a fan. But if you like it...
