I would never modify a firearm. You devalue it by modifying it.

Is your beige station wagon still stock as well? :p If you read up in the EE you'll find most of the used rifles have had at least some modification to improve their service to their owners.

870's and others go up in value with modifications. Most "mall ninja" style shotguns used to shock people, now even many die hards are running tricked out shotguns. It's too new for us to be used to with the Marlin levers, but it's just starting.

The new popularity of these big bore levers is due to their suitability as bear guns, and the other gear that has enhanced the value/performance of previous bear guns is just as valid on these rifles as any others.

That said, I find it shocking to look at many of the changes when I first see them too, but after thinking it through I can see the legitimate reasons for them.

Cowboy shooters who only live in remote bear country a few weeks of the year are going to be horrified, and we can't avoid that. However people who live in remote bear/cougar country for a good portion (or all) of the year are more concerned with the lever gun being an effective tool.

I don't know about some of you folks, but I buy firearms to use, and care little as to what their 'collector status" might be down the road.

I never could understand the concept of buying a rifle "because it's got good resale value"

You cannot put a price on a rifle that is what *you* want, built to *your* specs. Especially if you are in the middle of nowhere, and need to count on yoru rifle.

The SS guide is mine , I carry it in my hand for eight to twelve hours a day for many days in a row , sleeping out for not less than fifty nights a year , scrambling through a variety of terrains at beween six and ten thousand feet in elavation . Believe me , removing a pound and a half from my "hand carry" saves as much as twenty two and a half tons of lifting in a thirty thousand step day . It shoots great with a lot more recoil , but then I sleep in the rough too, it'll take any load that would leave a reusable brass ,that is "appropriate content " . It's a tool . Thank you all for your reactions .

Oh, it's just:rolleyes: a tool. Well, that's a little more understandable. I thought the somewhat inappropiate defination at the start was that it was TACTICOOL. Sounded like the modifications were made to transform it into something for military or law enforcement purposes, not hikes on the mountain.

Ah, I understand now! I should have stated right from the front:

If you have no sense of humour and no imagination please avoid this thread, you won't get it, and will just come off like a bumhole by posting in it.

Excessive use of the "eye roll" smiley makes a person look like an #######, just FYI.

"...somewhat inappropriate definition..." Oy Gevult, my aching teeth. Grow a funnybone! If I called them "Jew-baby killing marlins", it would be inappropriate. "Space age and tacticool" is just a bit silly. "Inappropriate" Jeeze Loiuse. Now I need a drink.
