Modifying An SKS

Wow OP, you sure don't get tired of rehashing SKS topics. Why not ask the gurus at the sksboards/files site? Maybe because this topic wouldn't fly there? Seems you ask questions you already know the answer to. (Just a glaringly obvious observation)

Glitter! I was thinking rhinestones, perhaps press them directly into the still wet plasti-dip?

Would plasti-dip melt ad smoke when heated up? I dunno... Last thing I would wanna do is make a mistake and look like an idiot in the video I wanted to make of the 500 round ammo-dump stress-test I was going to launch my youtube channel with.

I used to build bikes. I spent years customizing bikes. I think if you search the internet for"Black Sunshine" you'll still find stuff I built. Long time ago. Now I customize guns. The one thing I learned about SKS's is that, for the most part, leave them alone. They are a beautiful gun (I have a soft spot for milsurps). They work great for what they do, as they are.

My two cents.

EL3..

From what I understand, both sks sites you mentioned have a 'modified' section. Not seeing that subsection here, its bound to be where she be. It's a simple honest question... How would you modify it, or would you even modify it to begin with. How would I know peoples opinion if I don't ask. I'm not a mind reader, so how am I asking questions I already know the answer to? Heck... I looked at the 6 most recent pages here and almost every single sks related topic was about modification.

What I have learned thus far is, some care what it is and some do not, they made millions of them, you don't need trigger guards, and nobody has ever gone glitter.

Its called having fun and hearing people's opinions. Rare dont do it, or dont care if its rare I would modify galore,.... Somewhere in between. Why get the panties in a wad?

Sorry Cannon, I spoke before realizing you were a La ###ercisto Astro Creep.

But regardless, there are lots of threads on the topic and they always end the same, purists vs bubba comments with a few "Niet! Rifle is fine!" memes. It gets exhausting.
I'm not the boss though, and my opinion means shyte here, however I will voice it whenever I'm not busy picking out wedgies.

Lmao true. There are definitely two schools of thought here. I'm a bit of a purist. I've tried a few things. I've got 5 SKS's. A couple are modded, and a couple are original. My opinion isn't worth crap, either. Just putting in my experience. I've found that once you get modding, it means more work. Sometimes I just like to take the gun and shoot the damned thing, lol.

Unfortunately we can't bullpup them :(

If you really want to make a practical shooter, non tacticool, but functional. I would look into a nice synthetic monte carlo stock, swap the sear and firing pin with murray's, chop and thread the barrel. Use a modern 30 cal brake, put on a scout scope mount replacing the rear sight. Spectre ballistics mag release... and if you don't like duckbill mags, go along with the mag mod. Red dot of choice. Bolt mod. Done.

Yes! Now we cookin with peanut oil!

How about wrapping the buttstock in paracord then camo plastidip?
Ha, my Father used to say " cookin with peanut oil" nice rifle, shame about the pitting but that just proves you didn't get it from Sears,, that was another saying he would use when we pooched a building project slightly! Oh yea and the parachord idea is great, will reduce that massive slap in the cheek you get from the stock when you let fly with the all powerful 7.62x 39!! Cheers, you got any more cool gems in yer tickle trunk?

There's a few around here somewheres, but Im away from home due to work and don't really have many pics to link because of the recent Photohostage situation.

I'm out until you butcher it OP. I guess you might just to get a rise out of the locals. Sad to say but that's my take on your dilemma.

Hey now... Cannon talked me out of it. It was a good day.

Interesting to see how Many folks would mess with a North Korean regardless.

Troll this, troll that. A guy asks a legitimate question and receives 4 pages of replies. Then comes the name calling.

I give up... Lock her down

Don't let it get to you. This forum is the same as any other. Some keyboard bravado, some tinfoil hats, some old fuddy-duddies. You just ignore it and filter it out. I've managed to get some good advice from some good members on here. It's not all slush.
