Moose rifle?

I use a 7600 in .308 for truck gun/ hiking the bush for moose or setting up where my shots will be limited to 200yds or so. Not because the rifle won't do it, I've taken lots of deer out to 300yds with it but a 308 on a moose I limit to 200yds. If I am going to be sitting and calling where I have a good view I take the Sako 300wsm for some more reach. If I had to pick one the sako will never catch up to the meat that the pump has put in the freezer.

I use a semi 30 06

Like I said. I can think of countless animals (mainly moose) that if I had to do that cash register racking of a semi they would have never saw the inside of my freezer. If I'm standing an open meadow where a bunch of guys are dogging some coyotes out, he11 ya my Belgian bar 243 with red dot is the tool cause I get to rack that action long before the chase starts, but for accuracy, dependability, stealth I'll take a bolt any day

So I'm a died in the wool bolt gun guy, but I don't understand why would anyone wait until he saw game before he racked the action of his semi-auto rifle, particularly if he was hunting in heavy cover. A semi-auto rifle should be carried cocked and locked, especially when hunting in heavy cover, and if you choose not to use it as it is designed to be used, don't be surprised if it doesn't work out to well. If the semi-auto rifle is appropriate for use in open country, then its also an appropriate choice when hunting in the bush.

We sure are in agreement here. To like Baggy triggers, quarter ribs that don't hold POI worth diddley would take a lot of acquiring for me to suffer

Well... look at you!

Reading up on the internet are we?

I have never owned a No.1 that didn't hold POI... granted I haven't owned them all, but of the forty or so I have (all with quarter ribs)... they have all locked down just fine.

And I guess that I am a "baggy" guy, because I like the triggers too... they all get a tweaking... but all of my guns get tweaked... I guess that I am a "tweaky" guy also.

That's me... tweaky & baggy...

No been lots of times a guy (including me) has left our camp for a noon day walk. Just in the process of getting his stuff together and oops there's a moose on the trail. I recall probably the biggest moose of my life (54") was one night in started to just deluge rain so I left my watch. The he!! with it, nothings going to come to me in this soup. Unloaded, started out. Standing broadside on a slash pile. If I would have had to start the slang slang of a semi to lock up. Well lets just say he MAY have stayed, but I doubt it.

Did I mention Ruger #1's suck? That has no bearing on this post but it's for Hoyt

All I used for moose hunting for almost 20 years was my trusty 1954 model 760 in 270 and I took several at 300 yards. Mind you it was from a blind I've hunted for 30 years now so I know all the ranges and drops by heart.

My bolt guns get more use these days but I sure love that pump when I'm humping it through the bush or on the edge of slashes.

Oh yeah.... oh yeah... well YOU suck...

You can't feel it but I just slapped you with a leather glove....

You can't see it but I just kicked sand in your face...

Taint accurate but on a 35 mph yote it picks up darned fast

You like semi-auto's with red dots...

I like Ruger No.1's with rich walnut and blued steel...

Holy Shyte!!! I think I have the Fudd's with me on this one!!!

ATTENTION CGN! A new CGN World power alliance has formed, in the sympathizing of the "Thumbholes" and the "Fudds."

This changes EVERYTHING...

Stay tuned...

No I said semis w/red dot for one singular purpose. Actually I did have one ruger number one that I could hit with. I had one chambered and bored to a 410 shotty. It could hit partridge Ok
