Mossberg 500/590 Info

Not sure if this is the right section to ask this, or if it deserves its own thread. I bought my first shotgun a week ago, Mossberg 590 mariner edition. Put 50 shells through it on the weekend and I'm having an issue with extracting shells. Of those 50 rounds I'd guess 20 did not extract and I would have to reef on the forearm numerous times to eject the shell. It feels like the action lock is getting jammed up. Any suggestions?
Did you strip it down and clean/oil it before blasting away, they are coated with a corrosion inhibitor and can use a cleaning before first use, I keep mine fairly well lubed to, seems to make them run better! Also they seem to have a break in period, usually a couple hundred rounds and they smooth out!

Like Opex said , most likely ammo related , that cheap low base Winchester white box stuff does the same on my mossy .

im not a mossberg guy but 870s are the same way... i use cheap shells and this would happen so i just gave it a polish and there yea go no more stuck shells... but if you use high brass shells i bet it wont happen not as much anyway

Yea I was shooting Winchester at the start, that's when majority of the Shells would fail to extract. I switched to a box of Federal afterwards and it starting running better. I'll have to grab some high brass shells for next time.

I just gave it a visual inspection before firing. I read so many mixed opinions whether you needed to clean/lube it or not before the first rounds are fired. I'll give it a good clean and lube it up. It was getting better as the day went on, so maybe it just needs to be broken in and cleaned.

is there only one model of 590a1 that allows chokes?
the one with the 18.5 inch barrel and ghost ring sights?
i was hoping for 20 inch barrel also ready for chokes
though as you mentionned, the 18.5 barrel 590a1 can have the barrel swapped for one from an 835 using 3 inch or 2.75 inch shells

Strip-lube-reassemble. Make sure you give a vigorous cleaning to the chamber and bore on a new shotgun. My 500's eat all the ammo I feed them (my Mav 88 did too), as they have twin extractors. My Rem 870 extraction problem was rectified with a new Volquartsen extractor, but yours is new, so that is not the problem.

Does anyone know how closely the nickel plated +2 extension from S&J matches the parkerized barrel on the 590A1? Or would it be the black nitride one that matches closer?

Who's the supplier for Mossberg parts up here? I'm gonna do a rebuild on my newly acquired 590a1, so I need the shell stop and interrupter, extractors, ejector, etc.

Your best bet is Brownells , they have most of the small parts you're looking for , I replace both extractors and the pins for them with factory parts I got from them .
The 500 , 590 and 590a all use the same parts , the 590a just have a metal safety and trigger group along with the heavier barrel .
copy and paste , close the gap between ht tps should take you right there.

So i've rebuilt the previously mentioned 590A1, and now the safety won't disengage. Even at the off position, the gun is still on safe, i can feel the trigger hitting the safety block. On rare occasions i can get the hammer to drop if i wiggle the safety and the trigger pack just so.

I couldn't get the safety block, but I got a new spring, ball, and plate, and it's already got one of Simon's aluminum safety on it, and I have a new plastic safety as well, but I'll hold off using that unless necessary.

I've tried that a couple times now, I'll try it once more and take some pictures.

I have a 590A1 fitted with the Magpul SGA stock.

For my sling attachment, I prefer using QDs at both ends.

Is there a QD cup mount for the front that would not interfere with the bayonet?

I just got myself a 590 and I'm wondering is there any bayonet (I know, I know) that is not wobbly/prone to fall during firing or carry? Mine was a low usage 590 with heat shield and an ATI adjustable stock with cheekweld (better with the ghost sights I believe) and im told its a 590A1. Can anybody posts a picture of the markings under the receiver, right by the loading gate? mine says 590 with a copyright sign...I have a 6 round shell holder that is right over the large M590A1 receiver markings....before I take all this apart, is there many ways to recognize a real 590A1 (besides removing the shell holder)? The heat shield may have been done after market.

I got this in a trade for a rifle useless to me...but I feel that I may have got a 590 tactical that is NOT the real deal 590 A1....I really hesitate to remove the 6-shell holder, as it seems to share the same screw as the large extractor screw that we see inside the receiver...outside is a threaded stud and a nut on the top hole for the holder and the bottom screw looks like a tiny allen key...

Does anyone know where or who might have 1 of those huge Roadblocker muzzle brakes. I'm looking to buy 1 for a new build. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Trying to source an original Mossberg 500/590/590A1 synthetic stock. Having a hard time locating anything but the Magpul SGAs. Any one have a link?
