Mossberg MVP LC

Really? Let's see pics.

Ya sure there bud, I'll run out to the back forty and shoot a group at six feet... Take a pic and throw it up here if that will make you feel any better.

I'm not coming here to tell stories, I gave my opinion take it or leave it Mac.

In all honesty, my MVP is a predator NOT an LC. No I do not have pictures of any groups yet as I have only mounted my scope so far. But I DID shoot my MVP with a bushnell ar223 scope before I bought it (from a friend) and I was easily able to nab golf balls at 100yd.

I think I might just but one of these chassis for my rem 700 in 308, Iam already to 1000+ with it, hope once I do the swap my groups stay the same but we'll see!

I have the MVP in .223 on a bench rest stock as well, fluted barrel. Love the rifle, put a vortex scope on it and it's all kinds of fun to shoot. The wife loves it, hands down her favourite to shoot. AR mags are a plus as well. The bolt takes some getting used to, but if your not in a rush then just roll with it.

The down side.....

It's currently awaiting a trip to the gun doctors at Mossberg warranty. I was out with the wife shooting at the range and all of a sudden I was getting a few missfires. By missfire I mean what looked like light strikes on the primer. I picked up fired brass and compared and it looked about the same so it didn't make any sense.

So I switched to a few different manufactures of ammo. Same problem. I took it home and googled the issues people have been having. Apparently there is an issue with the bolt pulling brass back inside it and screwing up the firing pin and spring. So I pulled mine apart. Boom, there it was two perfect punch outs of the firing pin floating around inside. So I dumped them out, cleaned it and put it back together. Went back to the range. I function test it first and everything was working fine. Chambered a round, thud. Light strike again. This repeated. It would not fire. So I phoned P&D in Edmonton where I purchased it. They had not heard of the problem so they recommended I ship it off to the warranty people.

This is where we are at not. I am waiting to see if I am still employed on Tuesday so I am holding off on that.

I will say this. I needed to get used to the bolt, and mag release. Once I did, I love the rifle. It is a fun rifle. Just know that those were my issues.

Cheers

Saying the MVP can shoot 1/2" all day is a story and nothing more. That's all I'm saying. Why bull####?

I wasn't trying to be a troll. I just think it would suck to go out and buy one and expect 1/2 MoA, only to be disappointed. That's all.

I'll go back under my bridge now.

Would the MVP LC be considered a bench rest precision rifle?

It seems to be advertised that way. If it was a Tikka, Savage, or Rem it would have a LOT more interest. I was lucky and got a pretty accurate MVP 5.56 last year, shot a clover leaf at 60m off a fence rail. Now it's waiting for the ground hogs to return to the farm so I can have some fun.

I was about to order the RPR off of EE but the a$$ sold it to another before answering my questions about shipping charges. So I ordered the MVP LC .308 from Cabelas. I'm just waiting to hear when it's shipped.

Only worry I have is how I handle the cold of the stock when using it to shoot/hunt in the cold.

Edit:
Cabelas.ca has the combo deal for $1930 and no scope for $1370. The scope sells around $800 but I've seen it higher so it's a deal if you get the scope with it. I did a quick part check and the breakdown was as follows.

- Scope = $800CND
- Brake = $90US (Say $100CND)
- Chassis = $400CND
- Magazine = $40CND
- Pistol Grip = $20CND
- Butt Stock = $130CND (Tube & Nut Incl.)
- Caldwell bipod = $50CND

So that leaves the cost of the action/barrel at $390CND, not great for a Mossberg but not bad either. To buy the rifle and add the same scope later would be $2170

I never new that vortex scope was so expensive. I was going to purchase the rifle without the scope and put one of those Bushnell 4.5-18 AR .308 optics on it, now i'm just thinking o getting the scope combo. Let me know how you like the rifle, and try to get some pictures of your groups.

Like most scopes it depends on the model.

I still have about 5 days before I even see the rifle. Never ordered from Cabelas before so I hope it doesn't come damaged or has issues. I like to pick things up at local stores and look them over first but no local stock and they had free shipping.

Once I get things setup and test fired I'll do a write-up for here. Might be a week or two from now but before xmas.

Cabelas hasn't even shipped yet. After 7 days they are almost ready, so they say, should be shipped Monday. They said they had to verify my license first, even though I've bought from them before, and no other store I buy from has ever done this unless it was a restricted purchase. Would have been better/faster to wait for stock and go pick it up myself. 14 days is a joke when it's already in province and someone has to be home to sign for it.

I have a Mossberg mvp in 556 for shooting predators on the farm. It does really well with 70gr hp rounds, especially on a windy day for long shots. With some homeloads I can get sub-moa groups off a 3 point rest.

The trigger is a good set up and smooth to fire, but the magazine/box assembly is plastic and has a loose and sloppy fit even with factory mags. I've been told there is a fix for this but I can't seem to get a email reply from either a US or CDN Mossberg service depots.

I have the same rifle, if it's the laminate stock. It shoots very well up to 100m, 3 round clovers off a stool and fence rail at 60m, but I haven't had an opportunity to try it further. (No groundhogs this year.) Which is why I'm taking a chance on the MVP LC.

I had slop in the mag well as well. I used a 2" sticky foam pad that was a foot for a computer/network switch and cut it in half long-ways and stuck it in the mag well channel. Haven't had any issues in a year. I use the same LAR and Beowulf mags in my Benelli MR1 now.

Sighted in a friends .223 MVP (regular stock, 16") this afternoon with the cheap Chinese scope & cheap detachable rings it comes with.

Hate to back these guys up but the MVP with average ammo will do 3/4" groups easily if you do. Sorry, but it did. With good hand loaded ammo or some match grade have no doubt you can better it.

For the record my main bolt action is a GA Precision with US Optics scope, so I have no attachment to this MVP fight what so ever. Kinda pisses me off this cheap rifle did that well !! Have no idea what it will do at much longer ranges but at 100 m these guys aren't yankin' your chain.

FYI:
I highly recommend checking the torque settings on the action, base and rings. From the factory they basically were hand tight.
Also recommend running your elevation and windage knobs all the way over to both ends and divide in half. The reticle was not centered by a fair bit.

- bolt is a tad sloppy but not near as bad as some make it out to be
- mags feel loose but it worked fine. It doesn't have a solid positive click to know it's inserted. No issue caused by this though
- the square forend is a little odd but didn't offend me
- the shape of the stock felt weird on my cheek (a little too "pointed")

Although I'm not a big fan of vortex scopes, the viper hs is a much better optic than the Bushnell AR series. They don't track worth ####.
