You guys are being pretty hard on Sheep, he's got an opinion and some studies to validate it, more than a lot of opinions expressed on here that I've seen. I personally don't agree, and I haven't spent a lifetime with firearms to squirt seasoning in a bears face. Given what I have witnessed at a bear defense course I watched for a bit at the range, waiting for them to wrap it up, I'd have to say 9 of the 10 there would be better off with bear spray. Most could barely hit the backstop with the 870s and slugs and after 1 or 2 shots most were bouncing them off the ground anywhere from 20-50 ft in front of themselves. It was the most pathetic thing I have ever watched relating to firearms. Guaranteed they have much greater experience with Raid house and garden and Raid wasp spray so pepper spray wouldn't be a big stretch.......but absolutely none of them should have been allowed any where near a firearm.
In this forum of highly trained and qualified and very well practiced riflemen of course bear spray is an insult.........we can all dismount our slung rifle and hit a mosquito on the fly in the eye at 50 mtrs in 1/100 of a second so no bear would ever stand a chance against us anyway..............

Like I said before, I personally never worry about bears, hell let them worry about me, I'm way more dangerous and deadly than they could ever be. I doubt there is a grizzly out there that has killed as much sh!t as I have!!!
