MRA renegade and Spectre ballistics builds

I also started out assembling my set with a 6.5 Grendel Barrel, and found working the action a real chore. Switched to a 5.56mm 14.5" DA light weight Barrel, huge difference, anyone planning on putting one together might want to consider case geometry when selecting a Cartridge.

Shoots pretty good, 30 random 223/5.56 55 gr FMJ, 100m, Iron Sights.

For those of you who have put one of these together with a A2 style front sight block ... what did you do to block the gas port? I'd like to use a LPC receiver set to build an A2 style HBAR service rifle, and of course it's not possible to simply re-orient the gas block in this case... Suggestions most welcome!

does anyone have effortless feeding and extraction with their 6.5G in either the LPC or Renegade platforms? what barrel and ammo are you using?

Even the stricter gun laws in the UK are not as bad as Canada's. They can still use their lowers and modified uppers for the no DI rifles. It would have been nice if we had that option.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I think abut swapping British gun laws for Canada's.

A Lord (not just some pleb) was arrested and charged because the cops found some .22 shells on his property. He doesn't own a registered .22 - ergo crime. Take a few seconds and think about how ####ed up that is, and on how many levels.

Yes renegade 6.5 Grendel 120 grain ttsx hodgdon benchmark 16" faxon gunner about a 1/2 grain below max load. Anything above and it gets sticky. Will likely drop it a bit more.

Just wait for it here.

Virgin Starline is bad for stretching so after a few reloads the e traction is better. Free bore and head spacing is critical.

I took the gas tube, chopped it and inverted it then reinstalled it. The first time I did this I used a recycled gas tube with thousands of rounds through it. I figured who cares since I was going to chop it anyway? It didn't work out so well as the gas burned a hole in the tube ASAP! (watch the video for the flame) So I grabbed a brand new stainless gas tube and did the same with that and it seems to be holding up fine. A better solution would be a solid pin with the correct hole drilled in it. Hopefully MRA or SBI create one.

Thanks Gatehouse — A solid pin it is then! LOL!

well, found the problem with my barrel.
it is a chamber issue - the mouth of the case is jamming into the leade when a round is chambered. case growth at the shoulder was 6-7 thou, so it looks to me like Odin didn't ream the neck deep enough. whatever it was, something was messed up during chambering.
I chambered a prepped piece of virgin brass (trimmed to 1.510" (minimum)), to see if anything showed up on the brass, and the case mouth came out quite rough. like a tiny hole saw.
looking closely at the 1F Starline brass (all initially trimmed to minimum) that I finally got around to tumbling, and the case mouths on the fired brass look like they've been roll crimped. the case mouth measures ~6 thou smaller diameter than the middle of the neck. it's visible to the naked eye if you look really close, and is too narrow for a bullet to drop through. no wonder everything was sticky.

I took the barrel and bolt into Calgary Shooting Centre yesterday, who sold them to me last fall, and the guy I dealt with had no interest in helping me. first he blamed the LPC receiver for magically affecting headspace on an AR barrel (because the SLR it was on first miraculously never stuck a case in the chamber). he then told me that it was pointless to send the barrel to Odin because AR parts were being confiscated at the border. finally, after he couldn't find the person who dealt with their Odin account, instead of taking my name/# for that person to call me, he told my best bet was to email Odin myself to see if they would help.
bear in mind, Odin offers lifetime replacement warranty for any defective parts, so that's seriously disappointing service.

My Renegade 223 build. As posted in another thread, i stripped parts for this build off another AR including an IBI 19” barrel, turned the gas block around, older Troy handguard with the tabs ground down. The MRA parts seem to be well built, eveything went together ok and after 400 rds no issues.
I know it doesn’t have to be cleaned as often as a gas gun, see how long it is before I get tired of pulling the stock, buffer tube and castle nut off to get at the BCG and properly get at the barrel.

yeah me too :( every time I see one of these it takes a small part of my soul away :( I know for some people its a way to use parts that otherwise are just sidelined and that's completely respectable but I just can't :(

Has anyone thought about doing one of these in 6mm ARC? Been looking at this round with a lot of interest for a smaller lighter precision rifle rig. Great ballistics and 6mm projectiles provide a wide range of options. Plus with 1000 yard capabilities and reduced recoil it could prove to be a very fun rifle. Thoughts??

I'm not able to consider one of these. So neutering.

I agree to an extent. However, our AR’s are completely out of action so this is a decent alternative to continue burning off 5.56/.223 in the meantime, plus we already have the parts on hand. If OIC isn’t overturned, you still have this. If OIC is overturned, you have abother NR rifle that can be fired in the bush.. that the government doesn’t need to know about.

Number one reason why I bought ☝️

I had to modify the upper receiver to accept my old school DD RISII hand guard. I will be painting the receiver and upper in FDE today. I’m pretty happy with it so far but have not shot any groups or chrono yet.
