Muzzle device opinions/experiences for SBR...

Good eyes! I didn't catch those tiny porting on the Ferfrans CRD. I thought they were just dimples.

Tough to notice, for sure!

But as discussed previously, any blast shield used over a muzzle device to direct concussion forward will definitely change the feel of the rifle under live fire. It has to. You're basically limiting the effectiveness of the muzzle device and what it was initially designed to do. That's why I'm thinking that the perforated Ferfrans shield will impose less of a performance reduction from the muzzle device as opposed to Griffin Armament's design.

Looks like Armtac is taking pre-orders for the Griffin QD Blast Shield at a crazy $215. (MSRP is $149USD). At that price, I think I'll fork out the extra $35 for a FerFrans CRD that comes with a brake from CTCS. Let's see how much CTCS prices are...

Yup...my thoughts exactly. Crazy expensive for the GA shield alone, on top of the cost for the muzzle device...

looks like AAC is also on the QD blast shield train (jump at 4:48) ratchet on their M4-2000 mount.

Thanks for the link, Ix.

Blast shields are gonna' become the latest fashion trend for our rifles...wanna' see?! But you know what's gonna' happen...there's gonna be a whole bunch of different manufacturers designing and selling them, but we're not gonna' be able to get any of that good stuff up here! ITAR this and that, and then when a Canadian dealer gets a few of them into the country, get ready to cough up $200+ for a blasted shield!!! (no pun intended...ok, maybe just a bit)...plus the cost of the companion muzzle device.

Ahhh...whatever.

Haha, you might be right. Soon other manufacturer's will probably jump on that blast shield bandwagon. Tell you one thing, I ain't spending $200 on a blast shield...

No way, C...if anything, I'm gonna' have a chat with a couple of friends who are machinists. If they can figure out a way to make a shield for the A2 style muzzle device, or even incorporate a threaded portion onto an existing brake, and adding a shield to thread onto it, I will do it. But to put forward $200 on a shield, and then another $100 - $125 for a brake/comp is just a bit pricey, in my opinion. Better things to upgrade on my rifle for $300+ than a "suped-up" muzzle device...

But they do look damn ###y!!!

I had the KAC 3T on my kac upper for a while and could not find any noticeable difference in recoil management. It might be better as a flash hider but never shot it in the dark so I don't know. It is super Gucci and made with metal from Alien spacecraft though.

mmmmm unobtainium...
seriously I don't think I'm at the point where I can put a 400$ muzzle device on my MK18, even if I'm looking to replace my BCM comp. KX5 at the top of my list today...

My NEA Mini Can does a pretty good job for my pest control duties. I may upgrade to a better suppressor later on, but the Mini Can means I can squeeze off some rounds without blowing out my inner ears when I have to engage targets on short notice (before I have time to put on my hearing protection ). I would rather shoot without a muzzle brake than with one due to the concussion and noise. Then again, I rarely shoot more than 4-6 rounds per engagement so my needs are different to competition or combat......

I've been pondering this very question now for a long time it seems. I've been wanting to switch my muzzle device on my DD MK18 , looking to keep the muzzle a little flatter in hopes of improving my time and tighten up my groups a bit in CQB drills. At the same time we are a group of that practices together and I'm not looking to blow any of my buddies ear out. For those of you who have run a BCM MOD 0 comp , how much of an improvement over the A2 is it at keeping the barrel flat and how bad is the concussion ?

Hoestly I haven't shot my MK18 with anything else than the BCM so it's hard to say... What I know for sure is that it makes huge fireballs and concussion is pretty bad, I mostly shoot indoors mind you. But I wouldn't recommend it on a 10.3". It does help muzzle jump a bit, but the downsides are a little too much IMHO. I had a Battlecomp on a 11.5" and it was doing a little better in every department, but it was a different gun and different time. Didn't get a chance to compare it side by side but I'm pretty sure it did, take it for what it's worth.
I should get me a bunch of crush washers and try both.

Get a jam nut or shim kit and furgettabout crush washers. :)
