My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

Awesome shooting there rabid not a .4 in the group.
I also like that last target was really good until the last bull, did you get a little nervous there at the end. Happens to the best of us.

Nicely done, Rabid. There's something to be said for a good barrel.

Thanks! Yeah, I gave the factory barrel a solid effort at this challenge, and while it would deliver some nice sub 1/2" groups every other/odd group, it could never do it consistently. It is such a joy to shoot now with the Lilja barrel on it, and it doesn't seem to be terribly fussed about what ammo is used in it.

Savage, I'm as cool as a cucumber when I shoot! Hard to say if I might've messed up shooting the R-100, I've got a couple targets I don't remember which rifle was shot with what ammo! It was a loooonnng range day with several rifles... I could show ya some targets where I know I'm at fault... but that's not in the spirit of this thread ;) Looking back at that target, my takeaway is that R-100 needs minor tuning work, not an ideal load.

Been awhile since I've had something to add to this thread, my goals for this year did not go smoothly... but I am back on track. Shot a few targets with the 597 yesterday, didn't experiment much (at all) with the Limbsaver X-Ring, just put it on at home and went shooting. Also shimmed the barrel near the receiver with a piece of leather. Ended up with a target I'm pretty happy with shooting SK Rifle Match. First 597 for this thread! :50cal:

Remington 597 - Lilja barrel
Sightron SII 6-24x
Caldwell Rock w/ medium front bag, and rear bag.
Groups: 0.351", 0.282", 0.382", 0.321", 0.392"
Average = 0.346"

Ammo selection can make ya, or break ya. Squeaked out another two successful runs with some RWS, was a little dicey with the R-100.

Holy crap!! A Remington 597. I added you to the successful list.

I recently refurbished this 50 year old Anshutz 1408.It was pretty rough when I purchased it and was missing the front action screw which Grauhanan graciuosly provided me with one.
I got out today and zeroed it in 5 shots then ran a test group with SK RM which averaged .268
I then went right to work and completed the challenge on my very first target with the same ammo.
I shot 2 more target groups with centre X and they were not great as the 1408 prefers this cheaper SK rifle Match
Rifle is a vintage Anschutz 1408 made in 1967
Scope is a Vortex HST 6-24x50
Ammo was SK Rifle Match shot at 52 yds

.385/.449/.390/.307/.323

Average group size is .370

Way to clean the ol' gal up savage, you don't happen to know anything about woodworking, do you? :d Nice addition to the successful list. I've got another rifle I could add that's got 2 successful targets already, but it's not yet up to my standards. Short on time to get out to the range again :(

Will you be showing us five sub-.250 consecutive groups?

As a matter of fact I do know a little about woodworking. I,m a journeyman joiner.AKA cabinet maker. Yes I would have liked a better target but was very pleased to do it on the first try with cheaper ammo. I'll send you a before picture.

I'd love to, and if I have a shot at achieving that with any rifle it would be with the current project. First milestone for me to reach with it is all 0.299" or better, and I'd likely post that here. Going for glory with all sub 0.250" can be posted after that into the honorary mention list, who knows how long it might take me to nail it.

This rifle is a 1964 made Anschutz 1408. These models have a bit of a confusing history as they are close to the 1407. This older model has a slimmer and longer barrel than the 1407, with a .822" barrel that is 26.25" long compared to the 1407's .868" barrel thickness and 24.75" length. The '64 model has dovetails only on the rear half of the receiver.

First target, left to right: .311, .392, .324, .396, .434 average 0.371" Center-X
Second target: .473, .234, .217, .254, .356 average 0.307" Center-X
Third target: .328, .362, .303, .337, .435 average 0.353" SK Standard Plus

The rifle and Bausch and Lomb scope mounted on BKL cantilever rings.

Outstanding shooting Glenn! 3 targets all qualified no less. Those old match 54's rock, good trigger man as well. Glad too see you break out the center x.Awesome refinishing as well.

Great shooting once again. I added you to the successful list.

I was going to try out for the first time my made-in-1972 Anschutz Model 1407 (I have another made in 1970) yesterday, but it was just too windy. The shooting building lifts in the wind and lifted the crosshairs off the target page. Today was very calm.

The rifle

First target from left to right: .416, .167, .334, .349, .466" average: 0.346"
Second target: .287, .340, .427, .350, .485" average: 0.378"

The distance was 57 yards. The scope was a Sightron SII 36X. The ammo was SK Standard Plus.

I'm going to just start cutting and pasting the successful attempts. Nice shooting. I added you to the list.
