Need to figure out how to get the forum to start playing "Another one bites the dust" when you post in this thread, GlennWhat's your bucket list of rifles to shoot look like now?
And a three in a row. I added you to the list again. This is likely my last rifle to post about for this calendar year -- unless I can get an old rifle from the 1940's (not an S&L) drilled and tapped before the snow flies. Today's rifle a 1407 made in 1970. I guess I should identify the three similar rifles I have by referring to their serial numbers. Today's rifle is x9311. The 1407 in post #1298 is x8497, while the one in post #1246 is x1497. I think the shooters of some of these old club rifles switched stocks and barrelled actions from time to time.
The rifle with a Bausch and Lomb 36X. The ammo SK Standard Plus. The distance is 57 yards.
The groups on the first target, left to right: .326, .353, .389, .464, .270" average 0.360"
The second target, left to right: .368, .352, .465, .371, .394" average 0.390"
Let me begin by saying that it is with a sad heart that I post here today. It was confirmed to me yesterday that a fellow CGNer who posted on this thread regularly, savagecanuck, recently passed away. Ryan was a fellow target shooter, rimfire enthusiast, and outdoors lover. We communicated regularly and I benefitted greatly from his knowledge, generosity, advice, and encouragement. I will miss him and offer my condolences to his family.

As a result, when I was at the range today I was thinking about my friend Ryan. I think he would have encouraged his friends to continue with their activities and interests. It was only recently that I received this Schultz and Larsen rifle and had drilled and tapped for scope mounting. I never had the chance to tell Ryan about this rifle, and I'm not sure whether it is a M70 or a M77. It has a very nice trigger (see photo below) that breaks around 10 ounces and an accessory rail under the forearm. It is not the old rifle I referred to in my previous post. That M45 Valmet is still waiting for me to find suitable bases.
The rifle
The trigger
First target: .229, .217, .493, .224, .298" average group size .292"
Second target: .419, .366, .495, .286, .185" average group size .350"
The distance was 57 yards. The ammo was Center X. The scope was a Sightron SII36X
I'd like to think that wherever Ryan is now shooting it never gets windy and the good ammo never runs out. Rest in peace, my friend.
