My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

I wasn't having the best day today (lost a couple goat kids at birth) so I thought I'd pull out My Anschutz M-SR and do some shooting to cheer me up. I bought it last fall and only fired 150 rounds before the days got shorter and the weather got bad. At the time I was using SK standard plus, and groups looked promising.

I didn't shoot much through the winter, but when I did it was all off hand practice. I've never really been much of a bench shooter, but last year I built myself a bench and started to practice with my CZ's before buying the Annie. A few times I was able to get 5 consecutive groups under a 1/2 inch with more than 1 CZ, but never the first 25 shots, and never on a target without any other holes in it... I was also too cheap to buy expensive ammo.

Anyways, Over the winter I did buy some (relatively) expensive ammo and this was my first time trying it. My day has gotten a whole lot better, as this it by far the best I've shot with a 22lr.

Rifle- Anschutz M-SR
Scope- Sightron SIII 8-32x56 LRMOA
front rest- home made out of scrap wood
rear rest- folded up towel
ammo- Lapua Center X

group #1- .35
group #2- .29
group #3- .10
group #4- .18
group #5- .29

Average group size- .242

Excellent shooting!

I also have to say that your rifle is absolutely gorgeous! May I ask you to pm me the details of where you purchased it? I must have one!

Thanks Bean, as a tradesman of 12 years, having spent my days measuring things groups 5 and 2 stated at 0.29" each, did not look equal in size to me. It ain't much, but here's what I got given your 0.56" ring measurement and a 0.204" hole size with the target software. You do need to measure groups from their widest point ;)

thanks for this Rabid, I take your interest in my target as a compliment. where do I find that program for measuring group size?

the gun is an Anschutz MSR. I purchased it from Prophet River last year. they were brought into Canada by Nordic Marksman. not sure how many are kicking around, but I don't think it is many.

Take it however you like, I was mainly just curious to see if my eye was right about the sizes. That was the first target I measured up in the software, I literally just got it running and your target was a perfect example to test out the program, so thanks for entertaining me :).

Just google up On Target. Free download gets you a 15 day trial, then you must register it to continue. It's meant for PC use, though like me on a mac you can run it with an emulator.

I've got one of those too, from Nordic. I considered the one you ended up buying, but kept going back to this one.

Well it seemed like winter was never going to end and I haven't been out target shooting since Dec1st.We finally had a sunny decent day and my job got cancelled so I made time this afternoon to get out and sight in the MPR and the 1813 supermatch. There is still about 18" of snow up were I went and was a little sketchy driving in.Boy was I rusty at first after sighting in the 1813 I did some ammo testing, not pretty with gold medal match,SK STD +,midas +,old center X.Was fighting some wind gusts and had flags with me.I also had to move my scope back about a half inch as I was having to lean in too far to get a good FOV.
Anyway after doubting myself I grabbed a box of a lot#centre X that usually works well and heres the target.

That is a ###y target there, Savage. Just like riding a bike ;) Man, I don't know how you made it since Dec without shooting... I haven't been for two weeks and I'm going nuts... well.... nuts-er.... lol! :d

Thanks rabid it was like riding a bike it came back to me. Actually my first set of 25 with federal gold medal match was good enough for a challenge group, but not great. We've had lots of low elevation snow making it difficult to get in the bush. Today was 12 -18" of mushy snow and hoping I didn't get stuck. I was also sick for about 5 weeks. It felt good to get out today.

Great shooting, Ryan. Those results are terrific. I'll bet it felt great to be back in the saddle again. I envy that as I haven't shot since December either.

Yes Glenn it felt great to get out its been a long winter here as well.I haven't been to the range as its 10km up in the mountains ,but the road is plowed but there is very little parking and too much snow to walk the targets out.The 1813 shoots very consistant.I did have a bad flyer once yesterday ammo testing, could have been me.

Excellent shooting & I really admire that 1813 especially in left hand format.

Thanks guys .Yes i'm really enjoying the feel of a true lefty rifle,my first one as I am left eye dominent. The rifle is so comfortable too shoot .I was adjusting a few things while shooting yesterday too suit me.I usually get a sore neck from straining but no issues at all with the stock on the 1813.I was shooting on hardpack snow with my homemade table and a fold up chair that was sliding in the snow.I think with some more practice I should get some groups in the teens.Very happy to shoot all .2s in a challange group its my personal best.

Congratulations savagecanuk, it looks like you have now made the list 6 times!!!

I wasn't sure of the total count. Thanks .It gets more expensive each time wanting a better more capable rifles. This being my first 54 action anschutz and seeing what they are capable of its hard to go back. I'm already entertaining the idea of selling my MPR to fund another 54 action. I was lucky to get a pretty good deal on the 1813 as it was a lefty which got rid of about 95% of the buyers. Hope to see you soon at the range, may go Sunday.
Cheers SC.

Nonetheless, it is the best five group, five shot target I've ever shot, and I am proud of it.

Those are four shot groups... not five.

Your first shot created the aiming point and does not count as part of a "group." Your first shot of a "group" must be at a specific aiming point, and the subsequent shots comprising the group are directed at same aiming point. Five consecutive shots fired while aimed at a single aiming point comprise a "five shot group."

Not to belabor the question of the legitimacy of minimouse's target and groups, but do you think it's any "easier" to shoot all four subsequent rounds within 1/4" of the first? It isn't any easier, and that's a fact. Try it.

Geez, nit-picking much? Would you mind posting a link to that rule or is it just the usual I know all BS. Why isn't your name on here with one of your hyper accurate "race guns"?

I am going to attempt to join the elite with this challenge this week weather permitting

I will have to sift through this 90 page thread to find the exact rules.

Going to be using my 1968 Marlin Golden 50 Glenfield Mod.65 .22lr with a Bushnell 1-6 power scope. I have owned it for 33 years, gramps bought it new in 1968 from either Eatons or Sears, I cant remember lol . It hasn't been used in 2 years, will give'r a dustin off and scrub the barrel. I could constantly shoot 1" groups at 50 yards, scope set at 2.5-3x off a rest. I'm thinking 1/2" groups are going to be cutting it tight :sok2

I can definitely pull 1/2" groups (no BS) from my 14.5" AR15 with an EoTech red dot off the rest at 50 yards, much nicer trigger.

I normally use 3" Birchwood Casey's ShootnC's, is that acceptable?
