My factory hunting rifle shoots between .5"-.75" all day! Really? Prove it!

I was really hoping to complete the challenge. But like a fool, I sold my only rifle capable of doing it. Oh well. I will have to buy another one that can do it.

Once my busy season is over I hope to give this a shot as well, I have a BRNO 222 that can do it, the question is, can I. Lol

I have a few other that might make it as well, time will tell.

Well figured I'd post my attempt! I was feeling pretty good about it, but on the last group, 3rd shot while I was at the range with some hunting buddies, one guy shot just as I was about to and I pulled the shot terribly! (It's hidden by the text in the first picture) I ended up taking a final shot at the group just for self gratification. So here she is, in all her failed glory:

Average of 0.7".

and with no text in the way, so you can see the Boo-Boo on #5:

So just to confirm, all groups need to be under 0.75" or average of under 0.75"? My rifle is for sale anyways, so don't think I'll get another kick at the can. Too bad because I know she can do it, it's the operator I worry about :HR: Browning X-Bolt in 270 WSM, only modification was a brake that was installed by the PO.

All groups need to be under .75". Nice try though. Even I wish it was for the average. I made 3 attempts that all averaged in the .6" range with one group spoiling it each time. Like I said. I made the rules and I couldn't do it.

The more I think about it, the more I realize it's a taller order than many would think. Not even as much from the rifle point of view, but the shooter! Respect to all the guys that have posted completed sheets already.

After seeing how few people have actually accomplished this challenge, I will be attempting it shortly!

I just bought a sako, biopod, comes with a decent scope. Im pretty sure it can beat this, im gonna put it to the test! With Factory ammo no less!

Can I try this with my Sako L461 Vixen Varmint (heavy barrel)?

Well I didn’t make the under the ¾” limit but I did make it under an inch and did impress someone else at the range. I can make it under ¾” but I would have to shoot it at 5 different trips to the range. It seems the firearm shoots well the first couple of groups but then opens up. I do wait a long time between groups as I usually shoot another firearm and walk down to check the groups. By the way this was with a Savage Axis and it does upset me that a firearm I paid $302 with a scope delivered to my door out shoots firearms I paid more than 10 times for including a scope. I will try again as it is nice to see what I can do but I usually do not worry about this kind of accuracy because of where I hunt and what I am hunting for. Please correct any mistakes I have done with this post or measuring the groups.
For those that don't know about Savage lately, is that the company is directly focused on the most accuracy for the buck with quality engineering and testing behind their products. Unlike others such as Remington (Sad to say) these folks are producing top performing rifles without having to dink with them after purchase other than clean & degrease the buggers, adjust the trigger to your liking and add the scope of your choice.

After that, it becomes a matter of ammo crafting or selection. Guess what's on the way to my postal outlet at the moment?

Time to have some fun with this....More to follow.:)

UPDATE: My new hunting rig arrived awhile back and I've since installed a fresh 4-12 Bushnell on 'er
but have yet to get out to the range with it yet. She's a Savage 10 Precision Carbine in .223, but
I have a funny feelin' that this puppy may have to compete in a different challenge though because
of the heavier barrel profile.

No worries though, cause the deer ain't gonna know the difference anyhow.;)

Oops, almost forgot....typical good group from a Savage!

So what's the biggest rifle used in this challenge so far?

If the weather stays nice I'll give her a whirl next week with the .416. ;)

Took my REM 700 CDL 30-06 out and was able to get a grouping under .75".... However I did not have time to complete the challenge as most of the shoots were sighting in my brand new rifle and shooting some clays. Hope to hit the range this week or early next to complete the challenge. I know these don't count because there are other rounds on the paper. We had a second paper which I actually forgot at the range which was by far the best grouping. The picture with the massive hole actually had 4 shots inside the .75" area. The black mark and hole are from a screw. We had screws to mark the bullseye, maybe not the brightest idea, but it was a dead-on hit.
