My factory hunting rifle shoots between .5"-.75" all day! Really? Prove it!

Not a success, but an attempt.
I am going to play a bit with the load and see if I can tighten it up.
My goal is to make it into the precision thread with this rifle.
It is a stock savage axis, nothing done to the stock at all (other then cut down the but pad so it's not at an ogreish LOP)
Trigger has had minimal work done. Cut a coil or 2 from the spring and polished it up,
Scope is a tasco 6-24x42 varmint scope.

Largest group 1.556" smallest group .709" average group size 1.082"

(Sorry. I did shoot 6 groups and all 6 were used for my scoring)

Sorry no close up of smallest group, I didint feel it neccisary.

Nice try fred0000. Show everyone how those budget guns can shoot. What caliber is your gun? Also it looks like you are shooting 5 shot groups. You only need to shoot 3 shot groups

Tried the Bench rest challenge so thought I try this one! Here's what happened with my 308 Savage 111 with 165 accubonds and 41gr. Varget powder
Smallest group was 0.525 biggest group was 1.233 and average was 1.036

The ammo I used today was setup for a Ruger I had just sold and I had this scope off and had to put it back on for this challenge! I was sighting it in as I was shooting each group! Last group I shot was top right!

I read this thread, and thought, what the hell is going on, all the rules changed.
Brain fart, this is in the Hunting and sporting arms section. You started another challenge. LOL

Hopefully, this hangs in there until spring, unless I want to snowmobile in, with a rifle slung over my shoulder, I won't be trying this one until spring.

Great ideas by the way, can't wait until spring to try this.

Thanks. I hope the thread keeps itself alive long after spring.

I seldom shoot targets like that, I download and print these off the Remington website.

This technically doesn't qualify, but these were shot with a Tikka T3 hunter in 6.5 Swede with handloads 129 gr Hornady spirepoints and various loads of H4831sc and Reloder 22, all with RP Brass and Federal 210m primers, all were shot on the same day.

That's 7 5 shot groups that just go to show I'm not good enough not to pull one every once in a while.

Martinbns, trust me when you think about this challenge and every time you go to pull the trigger you can concentrate that much better.

I did not think I had a rifle worthy of trying in this challenge but I decided I will give my Rem 700 243 a go. Will just have to figure out a load and have at it. I never had a lot of faith in it accuracy wise but it may do the 3/4" and it is stock except for bedding and trigger.

if i remember this thread when all this snow is gone around mayish...... i'd be happy to try this challenge.
not saying i'll make the grade, but my rifle shoots better than i do.
i take great pride in disciplining myself to take accurate shots in real hunting conditions
so me and my factory win model 70 classic sporter with boss a 165gr 7mm magnum partition are up to the parameters of this challenge hehehe when it's warm and i won't be sitting in mud LOL

Kudos to all who gave it a go so far. I think this is a great idea and I'm looking forward to seeing some more targets. I feel a rifle that makes the grade is much more rare than people actually think.
I would have specified 24 cal and up but it's not my thread.

I would have like to try this one with my savage 223 but its got a boyds stock on it :(. Maybe I will try with my TC pro hunter but I guess that factory barrel is not considered sporter either? Besides my MLs and my XCR thats all I have for hunting.
