My factory hunting rifle shoots between .5"-.75" all day! Really? Prove it!

I have a M700 Classic in 300 Savage.
The rascal is very accurate, and often yields groups under ½ moa. [smallest 3-shot measures .040"]
Whether 5 consecutive groups will stay under ¾moa is the question.
I will give it a go on a decent day and post.
I have another "Classic" in 222 Remington that will definitely pass this test.

Eagleye - I think a fellow has to be on his game to shoot 5 groups like that in a row. I am going to try it with my 7mm RM. Perhaps you will drop me a pm or give me a call when you decise to head out and I'll try to join you at the range. We could heckle each other to make it a bit more challenging!

I gave it a run today. Savage model 16 FCSS in 223. Please note for the first two, I shot 5 shots (but counted them all in group) before I remembered the 3 shot rule. My average is about 1.29" and I often said I was good for 1" at 100 yards so I was not lying that much......

The before target. I had to take 5 targets and tap/staple them together at home onto a larger target.

I did put the scope 1.5" to the left for this group and might go two more clicks before next time.

I tried today and was so close! My first group measured .932". Every group after that was under .75". My rifle is an absolutely stock (except for a paint job) Tikka T3 Lite in 30/06 with a Leupold VX3 2.5-8 scope. I was shooting 185gr Berger VLD Hunting bullets with IMR 4064. My group sizes were:

.441"
.460"
.673"
.477"

.597" average

It was my last group so I moved the scope to get it zeroed.

Underthegun - my friend's T3 did the same thing as yours - 2 shots on top of each other and one "flier". His was a .300 WM and by 500 yards there was well over 3" between the two close shots and the flier.

Oh yes, one other thing, but I guess I just didn't read all of the posts, is that this is a hunting rifle challenge, so I assumed you would have to use hunting bullets.

I've posted this elsewhere previously but probably my best hunting rifle results was with some of the first reloads I put through my .25-06 Savage, 112BVSS

At 185yds.

The Berger VLD hunting bullets are hunting bullets. But there is no requirement that you need to use hunting bullets. Also about the 2+1 groups, I just contribute that to the 8X scope as not all 5 groups were like that. But I will pay attention to see if there is a pattern to it. This is literally just a load that I threw together and loaded 15 of them. I just set the bullets .005" off the lands and picked a middle charge of powder and loaded them. That is what I call luck.

Let's see the other 4 groups. There lots of threads on CGN where people can post the best group from their rifle. This one group doesn't even meet the goal of the challenge.

I don't have a qualifying entry but I hope to be in the hunt with my CZ 550 M in 416 Rigby and my Tikka 695 in 6.5x55 SE.

Plus, it's time for more pictures, even if they don't count.

Here's the first 5 groups I shot this past Sept. after bedding the 416 (it is otherwise stock). I was trying a few different loads that shot ok 'pre-bedding' to get an idea what it might like.

The lower left group was from a cold clean bore.

Since this photo it has grown a Zeiss Conquest 2-8x32:

That means at least 15 shots out of my 458 Lott. I don't think so!

I'm taunting you about the Bergers.

Note that every group you shot had two very close and one farther - in some groups it is farther than with others. It really became noticeable at longer ranges.

No problem about the Bergers. I wasn't sure if you were serious or not as no one had mentioned anything about the use of match/hunting bullets so I was just clarifying for everyone.
