My Lemon, Remington 597

Hi SGTM82

First off it not your fault you did not know or notice the problem with the rifling when you first bought the rifle , Really who would ever think that Remington would make a barrel for a 22 that has bad / imperfect rifling in this day and age ... It's very hard to believe that their computer controlled equipment and safe guards and Quality control would let this barrel leave the plant floor let alone get installed on a receiver and shipped out for sale to the general public .

Just think maybe should have kept it and sold it to a collector or Remington and with the big money buy a 597 HB and goodies to add on . I am sure this is one in a million , or should I say I hope it was .

The bigger picture is that we are seeing a lot more complaints about many different American gun companies making and selling poor quality ( Fit and Finish and parts ) in low and high priced fire arms , Very sad .

I hope Remington does the right thing and take Very good care of you and make you Very Happy !

As a side thought , Norinco , all steel 22 lr rifles don't seem to bad after all , they are low priced , all steel and you know in advance they are a little rough around the edges .

All the best !!

Have you found a way to improve the 30 round mags? It's my only point of contention as well. I would hedge bets that if an after market company made decent mags with either steel or hard polymer mouths they would sell out in days.

I have found a solution, dont buy them and if you did put them in the garbage...

What's the opposite of a lemon? Maybe a lime. I have a pair of 597 vtr's and love them to death. I quite often get to shoot for free on account of the ammo bets my friends and I make. One has an sr22 and the other a Franken rifle of kidd and dlask and vq parts. Sometimes I get beat but usually not. Hope yours works out, I am definitely a lover.

My 597 has been a dream. It's done better than most from the sounds of it. I stick to factory 10 round magazines and it's always run great with decent accuracy. I also own a 787 in 270 and it's very accurate. I have had some issues feeding the first round off the top of the mag.. Sometimes takes a little wiggle and second try.
