My Match Fee Formula

That is why. the rest are just excuses.
I believe competitiveness is what makes this sport interesting. You can look at is as a fun game, but then it will became boring very soon, especially if you won't see personal improvement.

I think he's referring to competitiveness at the expense of sportsmanship.

Everyone who shoots IPSC will define for themselves what they want to get out of the game, and then compete at their own comfort level. For those who wan to reach the top there will always be someone to push them or pull them there. For those who only want to go out for a nice afternoon shooting a match with their buddies, well, we have room for that too. IPSC has a place for everyone.

Surely the sport is open to anyone, even for those who don't think of it as a sport. But I don't think sportsman who are complaining about match prices and other stuff, including politics. So, I agree with Pat, if someone dropped out they wasn't much into it in the first place.

Just shoot if you enjoy & block out the rest

Actually, the honeymoon was over when I was inadvertently put on a 'god-squad' at the Ontario Provincials a few years back....I was disgusted by what I saw. It stopped being fun....and was down-right embarrasing to watch a grown man have a hissy fit over a tenth of a second or a quarter of an inch...

It was cool while it lasted, I won a few matches and now I've moved along to something else.

It's too bad you'd allow something or someone(s) inperfections get in the way of enjoying a sport you love to participate in.
I've been at this since 1995, with an away period of approx. 3 yrs. at one point (personal reasons) otherwise, I've neve really noticed what the politics were, or I'd hear about them later then most. And I've seen pissy fits from some of the really over competitive shooters... but even they are pretty good folk on most days...Like Relliot said, evryone has a moment here or there...yes some more often, but why let his/her actions affect you ?

I'm usually the last to hear about that or this issue or occurance, probably because I really don't pay attention to it... I love going out and squading with people I like, we shoot, we make fun of each other, we shoot some more, we go for a snack on way home and then do all over again following match...
Don's squad yourself with others you don't want to...and now it's easier to do with the online system that wasnt in place before... and you can let MD know who to and not to squad you with and get out and have a blast..

If you're STD division shooter who's won matches, then...um...I think revolver division is best for you ... :p;)

Just come out to a few matches and stick your foot back in the water and see if it's cold ?

But I don't think sportsman who are complaining about match prices and other stuff, including politics. So, I agree with Pat, if someone dropped out they wasn't much into it in the first place.
Well I would argue that point but I think this thread has been derailed far enough. Suffice to say that it may be slightly unfair and I would suggest, unwise, to judge a man's motivations without knowing them.

It's not up to you (or Pat) to decide why Nick dropped out...he told you why.

It really smacks of the arrogance and attitude he referenced in his post.

You make a good point and I apologize for jumping on that one.
There has always been friction in IPSC either between the martial artists and the gamers or the guys out for fun and the serious competitors. We should really all try to get along better as it does us no good to go at each other. There is place for both types we just have to strive to see the others point of view.

An almost perfect summation Sir!

I rarely if ever win or even place in the top ten at a match but that is not what I am there for. If I have a good feeling at the end of a match then as far as I am concerned it was a good match for me, and as everyone who knows me I have a ball no matter what, even when I shoot on the last squad of the match after haveing worked all day (at my own matches 3 days) I enjoy being part of the brotherhood or sisterhood of IPSC and that is the bottom line for all of us no matter what our level of competition is. From the new shooter who is a bundle of nerves right up to the Grandmasters and even the pros.

You are missing my point. I LIKE the competition. It's the people who take it too far that gave me a sour taste. People who are too 'intot the game' to bother to help patching or even to chat with their squad mates. I certainly found plenty of those...

I hope that your day job has nothing to do with psychology.....

Thanks Pat. For both the apology and your viewpoint. Maybe I'll go pay my dues. Anyone know how long you can be out before having to re-badge?

how about that formula

Thanks Pat. For both the apology and your viewpoint. Maybe I'll go pay my dues. Anyone know how long you can be out before having to re-badge?

Nick, What do you think of my original reason for the post, of some kind of formula to calculate match fees ? with some room for clubs to add a bit more $ for covering any extra expenses.... :D

We've streamlined the process to make it easier for old members to return, you have been out long enough to require a recertifivation but all you have to do is contact the BB coordinator and he will arrange to put you through a few quick drills to check you out, if everything is good, welcome back!
You can shoot with me anytime and I promise no drama...lol

Last I heard from the clubs, they don't want anyone tell them how much to charge for their matches. As it been pointed out here, it is an open market, if people won't like they prices, they simply won't go to those matches.

We all see such people and have to deal with them and not only in IPSC. To me it is not a reason to quit.

Sounds good Pat. You won't get any drama form me....plenty of entertainment from watching me and my rusty old wheelgun though :)
