My new BRNO

Noel, is that the beauty that slipped through my hands?:(

Nope, this is a different one. I came across it only by chance. The finish on this one is quite different from yours. They both were origonal bu tthis gun here has a more laquered style than the more tung oiled style yours wore. Condition wise they are near identical.
I knew Richard had been looking a long time for one and he would take care of her. I have one and that is enough. My 7 has been too good to me so the 8 I sold you had to go. I got a fever and it ain't cowbell I need to cure it, I need prewar Mausers.:p

Take good care of it Richard, you won't find another like that one any time soon.

Beautiful rifle Nechako!...I have one that's been around the block a few times but it is one of the few rifles I would never sell...I would think that these little Brno's where the first so called "mountain rifles".(in bolt actions)....Slim little beauties that they are...:)

Enjoy her! Use her! I have one in 7x57. One of the most beautiful and handy rifles ever. You showed good taste! A Weaver K4 looks sweet on this beauty!

No, I'm not from that area I just really like it. I'm in the Fraser Valley.

I'm really looking forward to trying it out and playing with different loads, it fits in nicely with the 7x57 and 9.3x62 too.

Richard

Yeah, it is a nice area! I used to treeplant and slash burn based out of PG. I was going to move there from the GVRD a few years ago, until the house prices went crazy up there too.

Your 8mm Mauser will go nicely with the 7x57mm and the 9.3x62mm.

Dave, the rear trigger will not fire the rifle but you need hands like a gorilla to set the front trigger off without setting it, and to get the full benefit out of the system one needs to replace the spring with a sheaved spring......and the only way you are going to do that is to make one yourself.

James.

So which kind of double set trigger does this one come with?

A. A 'double set trigger' has two triggers, one for setting the mechanism, one for firing the trigger.

B. A 'double set, single phase' trigger has a setting trigger and a firing trigger, but the gun can only be fired by setting the trigger, it won't fire in the un-set condition.

C. A 'double set, double phase' trigger has two triggers, one for setting the mechanism, one for firing it, but the gun can be fired without setting the trigger first.

Door letter C.

Pull the back one to set, front will be a hair trigger at 1 1/2 to 2lbs.........or just pull the front one alone a real stiff pull compared to being set first, 6-8lbs.

As Noel stated it is C, although it is best to use it as B.
However if something big and hairy is very close to you then it will not matter that you would normally require two bricks and a mallet to use it unset, as you will drag the front trigger through the butt-plate anyway.

Firing the 21 without the set trigger is, IMO, the only bad part of the model 21. When I used my 21's to hunt I always set the trigger, even for follow-up shots. I talked with an old gunsmith from Hungary who had worked on these rifles and he said you cannot make the trigger crisp and reasonable weight - you need to use the set trigger.

If you practice it becomes second nature.

Well Richard, you have had ample time to closely inspect and lovingly peruse your lovely lady.....how about filling us in on the details and or plans that you have for her.

Plans are to get it bedded then to use it for many years. :D

I was thinking of using QD rings but I'm afraid they would scratch the receiver so I'll probably go with fixed CZ rings. As far as a scope, most likely a Leupold or maybe something vintage.

Original mounts and Meopta scope would be pretty neat too. :)

They were also delivered with single trigger. I have one!

Unless I am mistaken/have been misinformed, they all had DST. There is a mod that removes the rear set trigger, but I have been informed (again maybe incorrectly), that this mod is not safe.

Anyone else care to elaborate?

Noel the only thing keeping me sane about giving up that 8mm 21 you sold me is the sweetheart 22H 7x57 I found by luck. The only thing I did not like about the 21 was the barrel length. Ill give up a limb before I let this little carbine out of my sight!

I'm still stuck on what scope I should use. I want something small and in gloss.

Choices are:
VX-III 1.5-5x20mm $434
VX-III 2.5-8x36mm $434
VX-II 2-7x33mm $346 (This one is matte but I'm temped by the price)
VX-II 2-7x28mm $372 (This one is an ultralight and probably too short)
FX-II 4x33mm $311

Any thoughts?

I'll probably order two of whatever I decide on, one for each BRNO.

Richard
