My New Norc M4 meets Mr. Cutoff Wheel

Just changing the hand guard on my 14.5" and noted the barrel is loose, at first I thought it was the upper, but it's the barrel turning ever so slightly. I assume the nut is working off? Any place in Vancouver sell the barrel nut wrench?

Got a wrench, but realized that the gas tubes holds the nut in place, now must remove the pins, anyone in Vancouver good with the Nork pins?

You should be able to punch the little pin out of the FSB and remove the gas tube, tighten the barrel nut, and re-install the tube.

Got the little pin out and I see the gas tube is loose at that receiver end, but man is it stuck at the FSB end, will try some solvent and some gentle heat.

Yep, 3-in-one, applied liberally (not Liberally), and let it set for a bit, then wiggle. if you can get a piece of rubber around the gas tube, and use that for traction, you can roll it slightly and help loosen it up. Once you've got it moving, more 3inone, and start fore-aft until it comes out. Give it a good cleaning when it comes out.

I had to use a Dremel tool to cut almost through the block, then clamp the top in a vice, and bottom (with the now mangled pins), in vice grips, and pry it apart at the cuts. Nasty, nasty work.

I've wrapped a rag around the tube and grabbed it with pliers to twist/pull it free.

Hey have you guys found that the NORC gas tube is out of specs? My other brand gas keys ( on other brand BCG ) do not fit in the tube and I can run them in my carbine.

Do you think changing the gas tube for a spec one will let me use other BCG? Will the oversised norc gas key work on a smaller ( to spec ) gas tube?

Cheers.

With the deal Marstar is offering on the Norinco M4's, I thought I would bump this thread so guys know what they may be getting into if they intend to replace the gas block/front sight OR cut off the front sight...

Oh, because of this thread, I chose to NOT to replace or cut off the gas block on my M4...

Cheers

This is the way we do it in the man cave:

Cut a cheap drill bit that fits the pin properly.
Put sight and short drill piece in steel vice and tighten to provide initial pressure.
Hit the vice jaw with a BFH.

Thanks for bringing this thread up for reading...... I think i'll just whack the Vortex on top (remove the handle)..... and hope the front site is not in the way....I bought the Strikefire with the AR (high) mount. It is my starter AR so just wanna shoot the hell outta it.

It helps to have the proper punch for these specific pins with the concave end. I've hammered out 5-6 of the norinco's front sights and they all went, but they do take a good pounding to do it.

I think I'll leave the A2 front sight on my wife's S&W now. 'Sides - she likes it!

If it was mine I'd be putting on a low profile gas block and FF tube , but it ain't.

ditto. I've done three Norks using a large center punch with the end ground down into a starter punch. Have a helper hold the FSB flat on a solid platform using leather or lead as padding, one hard blow with a 2lb hammer and they've never needed a second hit.

well , thanks for this thread nutz. Me too, decided to leave the front sight alone after reading this thread. but how to co-witness the front sight and a low sitting Redfield 4-12x40 scope

You can't co-witness anything with a 4x (and up) scope, the focal length of the objective won't let the front sight be anything more than a shadow. If you're using a 4x, you'll need to run off set sights, there are mounts available, but they'll require a rail. The easy way to mount a full rail is to cut the FSB down to just a gas block, and install a rail over it. This takes about 30 minutes if you're really careful, and gives you a rail out to the muzzle. In short, there's no way to see the front sight with a high magnification scope.
