Thought I would throw up a few pics of my Colt factory Dissipator. This firearm is rare enough in this configuration that there was even argument as to whether or not they even existed. I would like to give a big "thumbs up" to the crew at IRUNGUNS for bringing this in.

From the research I have done it seems to be generally accepted that these were built for the California Highway Patrol (CHP), although the exact number of them built is unknown. These have a 16" chrome lined barrel with a 1/9 twist. They have been built to take a mid length gas tube under the full rifle length hand guards. These rifles were traded in in the US with an aftermarket collapsable stock on them, I have taken this one back to it's original configuration with a Colt A2 stock assembly that I had on hand and a 5/50 Colt magazine. It has some scuffs and bumps on the outside as would be expected from an issued firearm, but is like new on the inside leading me to believe that it was test fired and sighted in at the most. And now for the good stuff!

Interestingly it is marked as 5.56 on the barrel but 223 on the receiver.

Info, questions and discussion welcome!

So I guess I should have said look almost exactly like the rifle I ate with, slept with, and had to pretend was attached to me like my left arm.

Need a bayonet for it? If so shoot me a PM

Why did they set up the gas system and front sight that way?

The purpose of the dissipator configuration is to have full length handguards and sight radius on a rifle with a carbine length barrel. The short barrel demands a gas block well behind the muzzle to generate an acceptable pressure-time curve, while the second gas block at the front supports the handguards and front sight.
