Nanuq(polar bear) ...

Thanks for posting pics of this amazing adventure. Congratulations on an incredible experience.

Someday you will get a white bear. Until then, just consider that you're paying your dues, and really living life while you do it.

Thank you very much for sharing the pictures. I was up in Rankin Inlet several years ago doing some winter training with the Rangers. Was a great 2 weeks. I couldn't get used to no trees though. Big fan of the ice fishing up there though :)

Great pics. I`m glad you at least saw some tracks. You could make up a great story about how you now practice "catch and release". Damn fishermen think they are better than hunters.:D

Great story and nice pics. Thanks for sharing. Could you explain how the list works. Is it a draw for the tags or do they go down the list until the 8 tags get filled. I'll never get the chance to do a hunt like this so I'll have to live vicariously through stories like yours. Thanks Rich.

I'm glad you folks all like the pics/story thank you! Rich, the community get's 8 tags and you have to go apply ... I applied late so I was #108 on the list of approx 170 or so. They went down the list and you had 48 hrs to go hunt and find one or return the tag for the next guy. It was wicked wicked cold this past Jan, Feb and into March so some folks didn't even go out apparently but the HTO(Hunters/Trappers Org) let their two days run down before letting the next person go. Most females are currently having cubs and males out on the flow-edge or ice pans so they're hard to find. It's exciting when you see tracks lets just say ... ;) Next year I hope to put my name in IMMEDIATELY! HAHA. :D

This is what Otokiak said, "It was wicked wicked cold this past Jan, Feb and into March-----"

How could this be? Dr. Suzuki and Al Gore say the artic ice is all melting, because we are driving our cars too much and don't turn the lights off when we are done reading.
Otokiak must have meant it was too hot to hunt polar bears.

My good friend Ted Irniq caught this beauty of a nanuq(polarbear) outside Iqaluit on Baffin Island ... I'm waiting on his details of size, rifle used and exactly where he got it ... BEAUTY!!! :D :D :D
