Well I'm in lovely Whale Cove, Nunavut for an airport inspection and the internet is beyond slow ... really that's an understatement and hopefully this post and pics goes thru. We headed out on the Hudson's Bay North East along the coast on our snowmobiles approx 7:30am when the sun is finally coming up and here's the pics as our weekend went on ...

p.s. I had 48 hrs to find a nanuq(polar bear) ... in reality with our sunlight I had approx 10-12 hrs of daylight in the two days(so really 24 hrs HAHA) ...

... also sorry but my digi-cam froze up so the pics are from my cell phone ... HAHA!
We used a Arctic Cat 800 with a qamutiq(wood sled) and a fan-cooled 550 skidoo ... here we are Saturday morning near the flow-edge approx 40 mile straight out from Rankin Inlet near Marble Island.
Some years the flow-edge reaches and goes past Marble Island ... it was several miles closer to Rankin and not to the island or past ... warmer winter me thinks ...
The flow-edge moves constantly ... some places it was nice and quiet, other places it crashed and boomed and made lots of noise ... you gotta know what you're doing out there ...

This lil piece of ice broke off while we were scoping the water ...

... imagine HUGE ice-pans that break off ... needless to say we moved on ...
Here I am with ROCHELLE my Springfield M1A which never froze up ... even in -50 weather ...
This is my good friend Joeffrey(catworks on CGN) at certain area's all along the flow-edge heading north towards Chesterfield Inlet from Rankin Inlet.
We hit an area where mother - nature showed just how tough she is ... couple miles from the flow-edge and we had to go around it all ... imagine a minefield going off and blowing chunks of solid ice up in piles everywhere ... we stood on top of one hill approx 60 plus feet up to look around ... it was insane.
We went to a place called Ivunigjuq(hazy island) where Joes uncles built a cabin long ago and a look-out tower to scan the flow-edge for ivik(walrus) and nanuq(polar bears) ... the next two pics are of that and show the cabin door and window knocked in from bears ... we scanned for a few hours and watched ivik(walrus) thru our scopes on the ice-pans past the flow-edge.
We continued on and toured for miles in and away from the flow-edge looking for tracks ... FINALLY we found some(3 sets) ... not quite fresh, not quite old ...

... snow around the tracks was hard, yet the snow inside was still kinda soft ...
These next two pic were of single tracks ... probably males as they were nice size and solo tracks ... you wanna talk about making your heart pump and mind race ... needless to say I didn't feel the cold for miles as we tracked ... but they disappeared into ice fields we couldn't travel ... dang!
Found a set of cub tracks next to a momma's ... only took a pic of the wee ones as they were cute and perfect ...
We headed home Sunday late afternoon as the sun goes down quick and it was getting windy. We stopped ontop of Rabbit Island and scope the area ... you can see for miles. Here's two pics of a marker and gives you an idea of how high up you are from the Bay.(approx 200 feet above the bay)
On our way home as it's getting dark ... the ride home was wicked cold and it was pitch black by the time we reached town.
I was unfortunately not successful but had a blast going out even in the cold as it's not an opportunity that comes up often ... like I said I was #108 on the list and never thought I'd get picked ...
