Nea ar-15

I have a Norinco and my son has 3 recently purchased NEAs. The Norc has been converted to a floating barrel. It runs perfectly.

The NEAs are the latest version. Two were perfect out of the box. One had two minor problems. I sent it back and they returned it with a one day turn-around. they replaced the upper to solve the minor problems and changed the handguard to the latest version, for good will.

I would have no hesitation in suggesting either the Norc or the NEA. In my opinion, the NEA is better looking and comes with a quad rail and floating barrel, which the Norc does not. Upgrading the Norc to this config would then increase the cost to similar to the NEA.

Disposable income is pretty high right now so I might go all out on this and purchase one of the higher end brands.

What bothers me is why is Colt branded stuff especially AR's so hard to find in Canada. They have a decent loyal following if you look at U.S. Gun forums but here they are pretty slim to none? Is there something I don't know?

Also, as usual Canadian stuff ends up costing more (import, tax, headache, etc) but compared to U.S. prices other brands like Armalite, Bushmaster, etc aren't all that different. You see + $500 tops, why is it with the Colt stuff a $1200 Rifle retails for $2200 in Canada. It seems like a very high jump in price compared to other brands even though they go through the same process/import cost.

Again, is there something I don't know?

Good idea, don't settle.

I have 2 NEA-15s and have been happy with them. Both have 14.5" barrels, one has a carbine length gas system(patrol rifle model), and the other has a mid-length gas system. From what I hear the company stands by their product 100%. I prefer to buy from a Canadian company when possible.

Im running an NEA with 12.5" bbl. I have nothing but high praise for the rifle. The fit, finish and looks are fantastic IMO. The trigger left a bit to be desired and was replaced pretty quick. But I love it. The price was right and left me with money for ammo/ optics etc.

Supporting a Canadian company was one of the factors that put me over the edge for that rifle. The warrantee is fantastic (not had to use it but haven't heard anything bad about sending it in for warrantee work)

From what I understand, Colt doesn’t export the rifles themselves and has no distributer/dealer network setup in Canada. They have to be bought in the US from a dealer or a store and then exported. Do to the time and costs to do all this they are rarer and more expensive in Canada. Colt is unlike companies that do have distributers/dealers setup in Canada, such as LMT, DD, Stag, Armalite, KAC. As a side note there is a Colt Canada but they currently refuse to sell to none Military/Law enforcement, probably part of the reason Colt doesn’t send rifles our way.

If you have the disposable income and think the rifle will get some good use I would suggest spending a little more on a better known brand. How does the saying go, buy once cry once.

Has anybody bought one of the NEA upper/lower matched sets from SFRC? I'm wondering if they jig them up in pairs and machine the takedown pin holes for a nice fit? Has there machining improved, I shot and examined one last week, the upper/lower fit was looser then my Norc and the lower receiver had milling swirl marks on it?

Im not bashing, just wonder how much they have improved as I am interested in the receiver set

I have two NEA's a 7.5 and a 12.5 and the fit and finish on them is great the fit between the upper and lower is nice and tight on both no rattle at all. I'm very happy with them ran the 7.5 thru a tactical rifle course and it was flawless.

The machining on both mine are very good, I come from the automotive machining world so am aware of machining. I suspect many of the problems were with early firearms, everyone has growing pains. That said what a company does when there are problems is a better measure, and from most reports I've seen it seems like they took care of their customers.

For the premium you pay for Colts in Canada you're better off either paying a little less and getting a DD, or even an NEA or adding a few hundred more and getting a Noveske which fit is better than any Colt.

I have an AT-15 from Alberta Tactical. Best gun for any amount of money anywhere. Also made in Canada and anyone who knows ATRS knows they have the best customer service in the industry!
