NEA/BCL 102 FAQ Thread

The asap plates work on my first gen I imagine they will on the second ones to. I find the gun great to carry hunting with a ms4 I put a qd mount in front of the non functioning one.

Yeah I've got an ms4 as well on my ar15, what do you mean by the non functioning one? Theres a non functioning QD slot on the rail???

Interesting that someone said asap doesnt work. Maybe they have a gen 2 since yours is a 1

The qd hole at the front of the rail dose not work. The barrel nut makes it so you can not insert far enough in to lock. It would have been nice if they worked but a magpul mlok qd point works well. I have it in the first slot and with my ms4 in that and the buffer plat slung across my front I can bushwack well and when it comes time to shoulder I have great tension from the sling to really bury the gun in my shoulder. It makes for a very stable standing shot.

The QD hole was moved forward on the second run to fix the barrel nut issue.

Also aftermarket charging handles now don't work without modification so it's hard to say if the ASAP mount still works on the second batch as someone claimed it doesn't.

Gen 1. Not the newest ones.

I don't see why they would change the plate design but then again it makes no sense to me why they would change the charging handle. I don't see a up side to making it harder for guys to customize there rifles. I'm glad I got the first run mine has been great from day one other than taking a few brake in rounds to get it to run surplus.

Ah that makes sense, I was wondering why the QD point was moved, they dont seem to test basic things lol. If the only permanent modification I have to do is to the charging handle then ill be pretty happy with the gen 2. I dont think a Geissele will work though as the 308 charging handles dont work in a lot of guns unfortunately.

How has accuracy been?

I find the gun is more accurate than me. But cold bore shot dose seem to rise a bit and I'm usally a little the the left. I will be putting a lot of rounds through the gun this winter as I'm going to switch to 6.5creedmoor for next hunting season.

Just got my FDE 102. Anyone know if the buffer tube is commercial or milspec diameter? Threw on a Magpul grip, and a crappy stock because I can’t find my CTR. Put the ALG trigger and 1-4 optic and got rid of the stock muzzle brake and put on a battle comp. Might go to an A2 flash hider.

FYI

New name for the BCL 102 now called "Catamount" ?

From Black Creek Labs FB page:
At the IWA show in March, Black Creek Labs will be unveiling a new line of piston based carbines and we will also feature the former NEA/BCL 102 in 7.62NATO and 6.5 Creedmoor, now called the Catamount.

Continually re-brand/re-label until they can produce a rifle of decent quality?

Looks like no more plans for a 243 model?

They will get the other calibers eventually. Will likely take a bit though as they are still setting up more machinery. Ryan indicated they got another machine so that will help with production once up and running.

Hopefully these new models will actually be in stores and on shelves sooner than later so a potential buyer could see and touch it before blindly committing .

With the Fulton Armory (Criterion) lightweight barrel .... 147g Lake City factory ammo. Primary Arms 1-6. JP BCG. Happy with the results.
