NEA Compact Carbine Stock install - Range report up.

Mine just came in as well & I installed it on my 9" 300BLK build.

The left rail interferes with the operation of the safety a bit (it's manageable, just a bit "in the way") when fully collapsed. I'm going to see how (or if) it cycles with 125gr and 208gr rounds and play with springs from there....

For those wondering about the "cheek weld" - there is none. Period. That's one of the compromises with this kind of stock.

Overall, it's exactly what I wanted/expected - just have to see if she cycles...

Collapsed (~24")

Hmmm. I recall playing with the beta to this stock and if you are 'nose to charging handle' the cheek weld was surprisingly quite good and comfortable - for any stock.
But help out Pete, is it me or did the angled portion extend out further on the back of the buffer tube extension than this one?

Ok, my camera is not working out.

I measured the buffer tube on the a4 stock with the shoulder rest fully extended and just the tube you can see, to where it mounts to the lower measures 3 and 7/8ths inches.
The extended length of the a4 stock is 10.5 inches

The NEA stock buffer tube measures 4 and 3/8ths inches. The extended length of the NEA stock 8 1/4th inches.

So you are moving your face 2.5" closer to the charging handle from wherever you sight from currently. So as long as you aren't resting your cheek all the way back on the a4, you should find that your cheek on the NEA stock is resting somewhere on the new buffer tube.

Typically, I shoot compact to bring my shoulders, arms, head, and rifle as close to one moving unit as possible, so the cheek weld on the NEA feels quite natural. Even with the stock nearly fully collapsed, I can find a comfortable spot to rest my cheek on the gun without worry of being bumped in the face by the charging handle.

After playing with it a bit more - I actually found a decent weld, provided that I creep up the stock a bit and angle my head more.

It's a neat-o design, that's for sure.

It makes sense to have to do this. If you look at people using MP5s or other sub guns, they are fairly tucked in when in ready to fire mode.

I just grabbed a mit full of .223 (about 200 rounds), so as soon as I clear up the remainder of my school work, I'll jam em through and report.

Range report update? Eager to hear how it functions.

Ben

It's exam week at school, so no time right now. Someone has to have had the setup out to a range already at this point, though. I will post range impressions after next Friday. Hopefully by Sunday.

a lot oh hype, and jargon over this stock....years in the making, and nobody has fired it?

Looking at most of the "black" guns on this forum it's pretty clear that they get painted, polished, tacked out...but not shot.

I *think* many on this site (some of our most prolific posters) just like to own them- rather than use them. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that.

On Friday I swapped lowers and ran it on my 14.5 5.56 upper. 200ish rounds and one FT feed (mag with bent lips) so - no issues with 5.56, for me anyway.

Not the most exciting report. Next week I'll try it on the 300BLK with both super and subsonics and see how she fares.
