One step further... keep the BLR .308 even "after" you are sure of the .45/70... I have had one for more than 30 years... they are keepers.

For a 45-70 don't even look at anything other than an original 1886 Win or the newer Brownings or Winchesters made by Miroku. The Mirokus are the finest made lever guns today, don't even glance at the Marlins, spend the extra 500 bucks and get the best on the market and you won't regret it.
 
Or,
Save yourself the $500 extra, buy the perfectly fine 1895 Marlin "JM". Shoot the Heck out of it and still not regret it. :)
 
Or save the $500 and buy the new and currently available Henry .45/70, shoot the heck out of it... and not regret it... ;)
