New acr bushmaster nr

So I'm confused.

If the gun is converted to NR with the longer barrel and the paperwork is submitted but not yet approved, does that mean I can or can't take the gun and shoot on crown land?

The prospect of having to wait 3 months for the conversion and ? months for the approval before I can shoot it anywhere makes me cringe.

Technically the ACR already has an FRT listing as non-restricted so as soon as it has a legal barrel on it is not restricted, so legallly you should be able to do whatever you want with it as a non-restricted gun. I know when a receiver be comes a gun you have 30 days to notify the registry.

BTW it looks fantastic!

IMO, as long as it is registered as a Restricted firearm with the RCMP, it's still has to be used, transported, stored under such conditions.

I have had a few different firearms converted to non-res now. Two were Swiss Arms barrel conversions before the end of the LGR and the last was a shotgun after the registry died.

The first two Ian did for me and the shotgun I did myself. Bottom line is that they all take time. The RCMP is far from efficient and like Ian says, they will occasionally "loose" your paperwork and request that it be resubmitted. It is a big pain in the ass but they do eventually get it done with enough prodding. Unfortunately this is the system we currently have and we all have to deal with it.

On the notion of using your newly converted rifle out in the bush before the paperwork goes through, I would strongly urge you not to. The rifle is most definitely still restricted and subject to the specific regulations, regardless of the fact that it physically meets the non-res criteria.

Ive seen Ians work first hand and the vortex style flashider looks really good.
Now with the NR bushmaster arriving anytime now why pay so much for the work?
all the dealers i know off have them on order, the NR barrels have been made and sitting at bushmaster since may, just waiting on enought parts to put guns togeather for the canadian order.
This 3+ MONTHS wait from the rcmp must be some new game they are playing, it just took me 6 weeks to get a barrle change verified on a cadex built ar15, because they said the bbl lenght was wrong.....

LOL, Obama just won the US election and you think that factory NR ACR's are just around the corner?

Good luck with that.

The big plus for me would be the integrated flash hider as well as the fact that you're getting a custom barrel to your specs. Sure the BM barrels would be the cheaper route but are they made from match grade blanks?
good point ben, but 99% of the people wanting the NR bbl and not doing it to get a match grade bbl
but yes im sure Ian,s builds will be much better then anything factory.

I do not want to speak on behalf of Ian, but during my discussion with him regarding a rebarrel (not of an ACR), he offered (and recommends - heck who wouldn't) Krieger barrels blanks and for a few hundred less (not $500 less), Green Mountain barrels, which aren't the bottom of the dumpster barrels either. Better than the stock barrel? Are the GM barrels better than the stock ACR barrels? I'm not in a position to say so. Would be interesting in knowing, for the benefit of this discussion (a $3500 NR acr is still expensive as f^%$!)

I just pudchased a Swiss Carbine and as soon as i get it in my hands its going straight to Ian for a barrel conversion to non restricted. Dont mind waiting a few more months on top to insure that it is indeed non restricted. A wait that will be well worth it. Good things come to those that are patient.

I had the same talk with him about that and he said he uses GM on most of his builds...ACR's and lots of other guns...

I'm not sure about any of you, but my ACR will be a sub-100M with a red dot on it ~99.9999999% of the time.

I don't need a fancy barrel with all of the la-te-da options.
