I have 3 crates here unopened(group buy). Should I do a nail test and post progress pics aswell? The crates don't have many markings.

They have a black stamp that says:

CN-001
MB-31

They also have a stamp that reads:

3-11-61
I haven't cracked them to check the spam can yet. Should I? Or should I wait and see how this play out?

I hope that's not the date of manufacture

CanAm, I hope you guys can sort it out with Norinco. I heard they're quite generous when dealing with defective products, or an alledged lack of quality control in this case.

Maybe they'll give you a discount, which you would kindly pass down to us :D

Ok so I did a nail test today, I'll post back with results when something happens. Its pretty warm and humid here. right now its 25 degrees Celsius, with a himidex of 35 degrees, we are at 83% humidity right now.

for starters, the crate was "scrubbed" of previous information.

I tested this against both MFS non corrosive I had, and some Chinese surplus corrosive ammo (donated from serhiy) oddly enough, this new production, and the corrosive stuff are both from factory "61"

One thing to note here is that I had one round of MFS I couldn't get to fire, and one round of the chinese surplus. maybe I had bad technique, but the new production stuff went off first hit both times. also the MFS made a bang comparable to a CCI stinger .22 LR. blew the primer right out.

the primers I couldn't get to fire, I really beat the crap out of them.

So I tested the ammo yesterday and the results seem to lean in favor that mines corrosive.

This is the before for the corrosive ammo.

And this is the before for the ammo in question. Notice how its much dirtier then the surplus ammo.

Here's after 30 hours in a damp basement.

They both have rust while the control sample stayed clean.

Il have to repeat the test to be sure but it seems mines corrosive. At least the ammo is cheaper then corrosive ammo I can find locally.

I picked up a 500 rd spam can from the EE forum from a local cgn member, 2011 non corrosive run. He got it from Can Am, I did a nail test this morning with two rounds from the 7.62x54r and two rounds of the Romanian corrosive x39 I picked up from lever arms with my sks. 6hrs later the norinco is still just sooty looking, no rust. The corrosive Romanian is clearly rusting, redish brown all over the nails. Pretty good indication the batch I bought off of the EE is non corrosive, I'll leave it for another day or two and see what it does. Been sitting in my studio inside which is nice and hot during the day.

results are in...

here is my nail that had no primer strike on it

This is after 24 hours. It has has been cool today (18°c) and rainy (this test was kept outside, but out of the rain)

This really sucks and definitely is not the result I wanted. I bought this for an SVT that hasn't been shot since import, and I don't want to play the corrosive game.

Please email us directly with the info so we can keep track of lot numbers, etc.

We are going back and forth with Norinco on this.

7.62X54R is not up on your site anymore are you waiting to fix this problem before having it back up online?

Yes. Tentative plan is to drop the price to surplus levels, sell it as corrosive, and sort it out with the factory. That way any surprise is a good one for the customer. We will issue a credit to those who bought already.

What about those of us that did a "group buy" while it was on sale. even at sale prices, I'm not really interested in corrosive ammo.It may be hard to sell now that I've opened it to test a few rounds. I still have one sealed spam can
