New Ammo Now in Stock 7.62x54 and 7.62x25 Non-Corrosive

Anything with lead core? A LOT of shooting ranges are either banning or thinkering about banning Steel-core ammo for whatever reasons... Ricochet, sparks on rocks might cause a forest fire, damaging the back stops and damaging steeltargets, false armor-piercing claims ....

Just checked my SVT40 barrel and bad news-heavy rust! I shot 125 rounds of this Norinco on Sunday. Cleaned after with about 10 patches of G96. This rifle had a shiny bore and this was the first time shooting it. How could this be non-corrosive ammo?
 
I shoot corrosive all the time,,, I've left guns for 3 months without a post shoot cleaning..... and when I decide to clean them,,, no signs of corotion at all!,,,, Seriously..... I think it's because I use Ballistol when I do clean them....

I haven't received my case of ammo yet, so nothing to report yet. It's due to arrive tomorrow (Thursday) supposedly. I will have to look up the "nail test" procedure, I know I saw it here somewhere on CGN previously not too long ago. Please post the info or a link to that if you have it, much appreciated in advance.

I have no intention to attempt repeating the same experiment on my unfired SVT-40 that the TWO unfortunate CGN'ers in this thread have already. I'd be royally pissed myself if it had happened to me.

I assume I will need to use my bullet puller hammer, then empty the powder from the cases, and do something with the primers to test for corrosion? I won't be able to report back until next week on this, as I'm away this weekend unfortunately. Maybe someone else here has bought some of this stuff too and can chime in.

I may or may not have a new case of 7.62X54R ammo up for sale soon, depending,...

Ballistol alone neutralizes the corrosive salts of the primers. It's not ideal, you should be using water or moose milk. However, if you're using just oil, Ballistol will solve these problems.

I hate to disagree but balistol with not water is no better than any other oil at cleaning corrosive.
 
Waiting to hear about this I want a case for my SVT-40 too My Mosins are good with the surplus stuff I have
 
I also put 60 rounds through the Mosin and same results-rusty barrel after sitting a few days. I've shot few hundred of the 7.62x51 Norinco and no problems. The 54R I received I'd defiantly corrosive. I have been shooting guns/milsurps with many different types of ammo for decades and I know the difference between corrosive/ non-corrosive. Now what? I only bought cause I wanted some non corrosive. I also sold 2 of the 4 crates to fellow CGN'r as non corrosive. I told him the results before he damages his guns. He's not happy now as he has tons of corrosive 54R and just needed some non-corrosive.
 
Unfortunately I still have not had the time to do the nail test with this ammo, work is crazy in advance of summer shutdown... However, two rusty rifles after a week in my safe is pretty conclusive to me. My beater SKS that has been in there dirty for about 3 months after shooting Norinco silver box & LCW and is still rust free.

The bores on the SVT's did not clean up too bad for how much rust they had, but considering they were like new and I paid a premium for them a week before shooting this ammo... I'm not very happy. I mostly blame Norinco, I know Canam would never intentionally market this stuff as non corrosive if they knew it was not, I have never had an issue with any other bulk Norinco ammo from them (Thousands of rounds, various calibers). Since Canam has done their test, I suspect that some of the lot is... and some is not.

I will be treating this ammo as corrosive (Shooting in my mosins only).
 
So every post that someone actually shot this ammo, their rifle bore has become rusty? Any one shoot this 54R with non rusty results?

We are currently testing this again. One thing I find odd is that not one customer has contacted us about this issue out of all the ammo we have sold.
 
I have yet to get out and fire off this Norinco 54R 2011 (production I believe). If it does turn out to be corrosive is there any exchanging available. I sit here and read all these threads but due to life it could be a year before I even get out and try it.

Canam you have been great and aloud me to hoard ammo like never before. I know very well your relying on Norinco's quality assurance is it possible that this ammo has a mixture of old and new made primers? I have not even opened my cans so cannot comment. I like to think that corrosive primers are a thing of the past so any new production from a reputable source should be as such.

This was in no way/shape or form a Canada Ammo bashing thread. I'm just trying to inform other CGN's that there is a possibility they got shipped corrosive ammo by MISTAKE. I don't want to see or hear of any more of these beautiful milsurps being damaged unintentionally. I have spent many thousands with Canada Ammo and will continue to support this great company. I have taken some pics of crates,ammo and will email them to help clear this up.
 
You can get a PH kit. Add a few drops of water into a fired case, let it sit for 10 minutes, shake it - and test the PH. This will definitly tell you if it is corrosive or not also.
