New Apex Optics from Calgary

We have been fortunate enough to have Apex leave us a prototype to run on a loaner rifle we have. (EM Precision) We bring the rifle to matches for competitors to use if they wish or just take a look over. Even as the pre-production model, I can comfortably say the turrets feel excellent. Easily comparable to any NF turret. Nice and positive with no concern clicking on a 15mil revolution. Glass was easily comparable to my Mark 5 and Minox ZP5. I personally think the Minox has better glass than the Mark 5 and didnt feel the Apex left anything on the table. Eyebox is comfortable with no noticeable detractions. One of our sponsored shooters, Mikey Friesen has been demoing a full production model against several other brands including the Mark 5, Minox ZP5, Tangent Theta and NX8. So far the Apex is holding its ground extremely respectably. From our observations, I would say most guys are going to be comparing this scope to the upper tier optics like Kahles, Mark 5, ATACR, Razor, etc. It certainly appears to be a step above the Cronus, NX8 and XTR product lines at a much more appealing price point.

So…..let’s talk cerakote. In order to cure a product with heat cure it requires 300F for 1 hours…….or, 250 for 2 hours………or 150 for 4 hours. When you cerakote an optic you have a lot of options. Air cure or heat. But a Glock sure as hell can’t stand up to 300F let alone the 400F you are talking about, which is wrong) get lots of cerakoted glocks out there. Low and slow.

Are they rated to survive 400F for 3 hours, or whatever the specifics for cerakote bake are?

Okay, the cerakote one bugged me some had to answer it, but I have one of the pre-production scopes in my hands and have for the last few weeks (this is the last mode before the main production run). I have a minox, mark 5, previously some March, nightforce and I borrowed a Theta from a buddy and that is sitting here as well.

I have had it mounted on my 300 prc, and have been slinging rounds with it, sitting on the back deck looking through 4 scopes, turning dials, etc. The point of this scope as I was told is to bring in a scope prices at the 2k level that will compete with a 4K scope and sell direct to consumer so they are getting the best optic but aren’t ending up poor.

Flat out, it competes. And not cronus, riton level. And yes JOL might also make Riton but they build to each companies individual specs, internal components and such. When I sit with a Tangent, who has some
Amazingly tactile and audible clicks nod the turrets and as I turn them both back and forth being unable to tel the difference. That’s a good thing. Someone previously brought up the clicks and were they sightron or night force and then someone said they probably won’t compete with minox. Well the flat out slaughter a minox. Minox isn’t known for its turrets and clicks. Sightron doesn’t even compare so it can stay of the list. This scope feels nothing like any sightron I have held, looked through, used. Nx8, still not there. Good scope, not there.

The scope tracks well. I have 50mg a in base and mount so it’s right on the bottom edge and I can go all the way up and down and it comes back to zero. Matched up on a tall target test very well.

Now if I could get a Gen 2 razor, the copes I already have, a ZCO, Khales, etc and line up ten scopes and start comparing. It might not be the top top scope in that group. But it would hold its own and do well. If people think Tangent is the golden standard, if it’s 90% of what a tangent is at 1/3 the cost. Mission accomplished.

I am also not Ilya the dark lord of optics from snipers hide who sets the gold standard for optics reviews. He however is gonna be taking a look at one if I understand correctly so it will get broken down by someone way more renowned then little ole me.

Rest assured, at this price point and this level of quality, with a “if you don’t like it, we will take it back” guarantee, it’s a safe bet.

I've got the Apex Optics website bookmarked, very interested in the up coming hunting optics...becoming a CGN business member is probably a very good idea! :)

Cant wait to get my hands on one, i love that reticle, excellent for PRS.

-Only 1 mil negative hold, perfect for viewing trace.
-0.5 mil wind marks for fast holds, so your not "counting lines".
-Tree with .5 mill dots, so your not holding between mills.

For those that tried it how's the eye box ?

I know it's subjective. My Bushnell DMR ii is alright although a bit tight at max magnification. I got behind a NX8 and it's a big no go for me. I had a lot of trouble getting a full picture.

That explains it. I thought something bad happened haha.

Well I just went ahead and ordered. I was looking for a scope for F class and long range hunting without breaking the bank.

I almost pulled the trigger on a Cronus before hearing about Apex.

I prefer to send my money to a canadian corp.

If it's as good as what I read i'll definitly get their hunting scope down the line.

I am waiting to here about the reviews, for me a 5-25, 3-18 version. would be better, 50 or 56mm. I would run Canadian everything if it was an option. Not to support Canada, but to support Canadian business. MDT, IBI, Apex optics for example.

Here's 2 that I'd put up money for.
A fixed power series like the leupold FX or M8 38mm 4 or 6 power, nice and compact.
A 2-7 lower power hunting optic less money then what korth is charging for. Something in the $600 price range.

I'm waiting for an MOA version without the xmas tree, but I'll probably just buy something else long before they offer such a thing.

You dont think there are a dozen or so scopes like that out there right now? I haven't looked at low power/low end scopes in a while but there never seemed to be shortage of them.
