New Apex Optics from Calgary

We got our optic today. Anyone considering spending $2000 - $4000 on an optic should seriously consider this scope. It's seriously under priced.

long run is the only way to know ...

I would argue warranty and support is the only unknown. The scope is made by a reputable manufacturer but all scopes can fail (debris inside lens on the same focal plane of the reticle, POI shift, reticle moving, bad tracking, faulty parallax, illum not working etc.)

It happens to S&B, Nightforce and Leupold so this will happen to Apex as well.

you re right the others had the time there are new on it so i said time will tell.

I finally got to take my apex out today and sight it in. I’m comparing the apex to an Athlon Ares ETR. The turrets are much nicer on the Apex, and I love the 15 MIL revolutions. I find the reticle larger in the ETR at the same mag as the Apex. The glass is excellent on both, and The Apex has better clarity at higher magnification. I find the Apex has a tighter eye box than the Ares, and several friends thought so as well. The zero stop works great, and is simple to set. The only things I don’t like are the small set screws to hold the turret caps on, I find they loosen over time, I much prefer the coin slot type. Also at lowest mag my bolt handle hits on the mag lever, which isn’t a huge deal. Overall I absolutely love the Apex, but the Ares ETR in my opinion is right there with it, but I’ve also warrantied the Ares within first year of owning it. The illumination on The ares is daylight bright, and can’t tell the illumination is in at all on the Apex. These are my observations with only a few hours behind the Apex, I’ve had the Ares for several years now, so I’m really comfortable behind it.

Anyone get one of these on a grey birch or other gucci 10/22 with .920 barrel? Will 1.00" high rings clear the bell? Cantilever forward required or will straight rings give enough eyebox?

Here it is on a Grey Birch LDR, with a built-in 20 MOA rail, on an MDT medium one-piece mount (1.34" height). Lots of clearance.

Lots of space to play back and forth, the eyebox is quite large.

That looks great, do you think it would fit with 1.00" height mount or would it be touching somewhere?

I'm out for the moment, but I'll measure the space between the bell with the cap on, and I'll let you know how much clearance there is.
I think 1" should be fine, but I'm not sure.

That bump below the turrets worries me too... with a 1" 1pc mount there isnt much space between the 'floor' of the mount and the tube cradle. Measure how far that bump protrudes from the bottom of the tube too, please.

OK, sorry for the delay, I went out and measured it with a set of calipers, so it's about as precise as you're going to get while mounted.

On this particular one-piece mount, there's 6.5mm of clearance (0.255") between the floor of the mount and the bottom of the erector housing.

I'd honestly say that you should most likely just go with a solid set of rings if you're looking to go as low as 1". Does anyone make a 1" tall one-piece mount?

Cadex made one

Just curious if anyone has heard any updates on the Hunting scope which was mentioned earlier in this thread?

They posted this on another forum, and also mentioned SHOT as the official unveiling-

Here's a sneak peek of what they'll be:

A 1-10x24 FFP LPVO, 34mm tube, custom combat reticle, perfect for near and far target engagements. Locking zero-stop low profile turrets, daylight illumination, integrated throw lever, ED APO glass system

And then there's the 3-15x44 hunting scope, also with ED APO glass, 30mm tube, throw lever, low profile locking zero-stop elevation turret, locking exposed windage turret, and purpose-built MIL reticle. The scope will also be offered with an optional custom-etched ballistic elevation turret.
