I've been out every day up at my cabin, sometimes twice a day.

That's why I started this thread in the first place! I've been out chasing grouse, and saw a couple bears along the way, and wondered if anybody has tried 20g slugs on blacks, that's all.

But you know how these threads digress..... lots of fun, all the time!

Seriously tho - was there something specifically you didn't agree with? Or are you just commenting on the general sillyness about. We get that way sometimes. Especally gatehouse. He's rutting.
 
I know that I am new to this so I don't want to make enymies. I lived on Vancouver Island for many years with the big blacks and shot a few with a 20 and it works. I also shot my grizz with my .270 and had no problems. Its all about bullet placement. I know for a fact the more african game has been taken with the 303 than any 375HH. But like I said I don't want to make enemys. I did'nt mean any disrespect before. I think this sight is great.
 
Well, good shot placement is everything no matter what you're using, but the question was 'would a 20 be good enough against an angry bear'.

In other words - not just for hunting, but against a hostile bear charging at you.

I already commented that i thought it would be adequate - but seeing as you've actually shot a bear with one before, you're probably the only one here who can actually say what kind of damage they can do to a bear. What do you think? close range, against an irate bear, (black bear now, not griz) you think they'll do the kind of damage they'd need to in order to stop one in it's tracks?
 
I do think so. I have a .338 win and when I use to go fishing on the river and I would take my pump 20 with me. Not cause I was scared. I think too many people think that these are monsters. there scared. But if one does charge I would keep pumping till I was empty. Trie shooting a pop can and see what it does. All it takes is one pellet. I love shot guns I think there great. Look att what they use in the city when a bear is downtown. They use bangers and flares, watch how fast they run. I seen 4 piss them selfs and run. Me myself, I would choose buck sho over slug. There is more room for error. I am not an expert just someone that spent a lot time in the bush. I've only had one get grumpy with me and I took care of him with my 20. Don't give them chance. Snap first if he looks like trouble. Don't let him. Think of them like a dog, don't show fear.
