New Coyote And Fox Thread (post Your Picks)

Thanks Guys! It was a lovely pelt on it AKD. I gave it to an old trapper up the road and he said it was a lovely pelt and was glad to get it. I still can't believe how my young fellow dumped that 'yote on the run with that "new to him" rifle. He only fired 2 rounds out of it at the range after I sighted it in, before taking to the woods with it. I guess being on the local cadet shooting team and constantly shooting as well as popping rabbits on the run every spare minute he can get in the woods bunny hunting has paid off. He's unbelievable fast at nailing running targets. Faster than me by far!
That was a VERY nice shot on that coyote sealhunter!

I really can't take too much credit for the shot.

Here's the story

I went calling out by an old farmhouse. After an hour there was nothing so I moved on. After about 20 minutes driving the grid roads I circled back, and walking accross the open field toward where I originally set up was a pair of coyotes.

I setup with the bipod and looked through the scope. The first one was moving faster and #2 was tagging along. I dropped in a bullet and scoped them again. I then turned up the magnification and had my crosshairs on the #2 shoulder as he was walking. It was -44 with the windchill and my eyes were watering and I thought about how cold it was and the windchill. Then it occurred to me, ... the wind...
I guessed the wind at 20k and the distance was 375-400 yrds. I had already dialed in the drop so I went ahead and dilaed in for 20k crosswind. I put the cross hair on his neck and gave a bark. He stood still and stared right at me.
When he looked ahead towards the other coyote I was on his ear. The trigger was set and I squeezed one off. It was instananeus drop. No kicks, rolls, movement, nothing...just dead.

I then walked out into the field to get him,... Big mistake. I had been sweating in the truck earlier and peeled off a lot of gear and didn't put it back on. I was good and cold after I got him.

So yes it was a good shot, but with the setup, there was not a very high degree of difficulty, other than the being cold and judging the wind.
I have preached it around here quite a bit that I cannot epxress just how completely satisfied I am with this rifle.

The one with me holding the wolf was a 300+ yd running shot. i know it sound like a bs story but i had a buddy right beside me watching the whole thing go down. we were moose hunting and she couldn't outrun the 300wsm!!!!

Badgers are spread throughout Alberta, but the best numbers I have seen are on the prairie and open ranchlands where gophers are plentiful and the digging is easy. Many of the holes this pod of badgers dug were wide and deep enough for a human to stand in. This particular field was an irrigated patch of alfalfa and the rancher had no problems with us varminting the gophers and badgers. I guess driving into a badger hole with a tractor can damage hell out of your tractor and skull...
