New EOTech models

Most people want thier optics higher than the current Eotech, not lower. Hence the aftermarket riser mounts.

Works way better for me with the LaRue riser! The Lower 3rd co-witness is way better than a true co-witness for me. I like a non-restricted view through the EOTec. A lower sight set up for a 12ga would be something like the T1.

Actually PP bushnell sort of made somthing smillar to this idea. I was out for 2 year's then they recalled all of them due to the batteries came flying out under high recoil. I was off turkey hunting in south eastern b.c. and I took to batteries right to the forehead. All I can say is thank god for the back up beed, otherwise I wouldn't have no turkey for christmass.
That is only due to a faulty design, not the upside-down concept. Their chicken bone-framed wonders just didn't cut it.
I guess if a serious optics designer took up the challenge, we soon could enjoy low-to-the-bore optical designs, suitable for a VZ-58, even on a russian side-mount with Weaver rail.
PP.

I honestly can't imagine why anyone would take this over an Aimpoint Micro? Battery life on the EOs is poop and the new single battery ones are twice as bad.

Plus while EO has been plagued with quality issues the Aimpoints just keep on working.

Laz I bet you would appreciate the height of the Aimpoint H1 on the UTG much more then the Eotech.

Sean,
I have played around with a few red dot optics over the years. As a matter of ancient historical record, I am pretty sure I was the first person on the Wet Coast to use a Red Dot at an IPSC match [ circa 1984 or so ]. This happened by accident when the front sight on my .45 Colt Commander fell off during a match. I had a Govt model grip screw scope mount and a cheap red dot in my range bag, and finished the match with an "optical" assist.

Back in those days, pre Gamers, and pretty well pre rule book Nazis and range lawyers, you could do things like that at an IPSC match.

Didn't like the red dots on pistols much then, even when my eyeballs were young and innocent, and still don't like red dots on pistols ... but obviously I am in the minority.

I do like some types of low powered/zero magnification/illuminated optics on rifles and carbines, but I still find anything with a tiny red dot hard for me to use quickly. You guys with younger eyeballs may see those small red dots OK,
but at 60 plus years of age,
I'll sacrifice a bit on over all size and battery life,
to get a big juicy reticle I can actually see quickly.

I recently tried a Chinese clone Micro, and the Bushnell clone Micro, and while I like the concept very much, both had dots too darn small for these old eyes to pick up quickly and consistently. I liked the Bushnell ACOG CLONE "T" reticle, and the Barska Acog clone reticle on my ARs, and liked the genuine EOTEC HOLO circle and dot reticles enough to buy a few of these.

I may end up with a non-battery powered ACOG scope type some day, probably one with a teensy bit of magnification.
OR,
if Aimpoint made a nice BIg fat circle and dot reticle, or a "T" reticle,
then maybe I would buy it.

Until then,
YPMMV is even more true than usual ...
I got my latest EO from someone who loved the holo concept, until he spent some time looking through the EO lens, and found he couldn't get used to the EO "PIXELATED" image, no matter how much he tried to wrap his eyeballs around it.

Yep,
people with astigmatism,
and/or "stubborn brain image processing issues",
may have problems with the EO projected HOLO images.

I like what I see through an EO,
but of course,
as always,
YPMMV

So with optics,
just like with shoes and toothbrushes,
No one else can really choose the best fit for you.

Try before you buy,
and look before you leap,
would be some very good advice ...
especially with EXPENSIVE optics.

Sean
just as a post script ...
I like the UTG M14 railed hand guard for the low profile/height of the top rail,
However,
with the M14 platform,
ANY optical solution is too damned high for proper cheek weld,
UNLESS
you also change to a straight line stock, or an adjustable cheek riser, or ???.

The Micro clone I had came with a cloned Larue QD mount as well. I took the red dot part off the mount, and mounted the sight directly to the rail, but even then, without some stock mods at the rear, an M14 just plain sucks as a scope platform.
just my opinion of course

What make is that flashlight holder you have on that shorty?

thx

Just a short 2" bit of rail bolted to the handguard with a few holes drilled through the plastic. Will get a quality set up if a DD or LaRue rail is in the plans(Like the like set up as is with the TLR-2)

Got the EOTec for a bigger "viewport" Was trying to find something that didn't feel like you were looking through a tube;)

I've been rocking an EOTech XPS 3-2 that I picked up from TSE. Having owned the 552 and 512 in the past, I have to say that I vastly prefer the XPS.

One CR123, and 600 hours of battery life? Yes please.

The overall length isn't much shorter than the N cell, but it's a vast improvement over the 552. I'm still getting used to the two dots - but it doesn't seem to be creating problems.

So less then one month of battery life at the lowest setting, meh thats not all that impressive.

As long as it allows me to put rounds where I want them, I can change that battery easily enough. Unless I'm in a non-stop firefight in excess of a few weeks, the battery life is irrelevant.

As an aside: Increased battery life does not make you a better shot, or impart some sort of secret-squirrel knowledge. Familiarity, comfort, and practice with your optic of choice DOES. Well... it makes you a better shot, at least.
