New Garmin xero C1 Pro Game changer

I had been mulling a LabRadar purchase for a while now. Pretty glad I never pulled that trigger.

I see the used LabRadar are all listed for $700 - $800. The people looking to dump units rendered nearly obsolete are gonna need to greatly revise their asking price before most of those will sell. Who's gonna buy an obsolete product for more than the newest tech costs?

In my opinion, while it's unproven, the size is perfect. We can't be certain about the system's accuracy, but considering Garmin's reputation for producing quality products, it should perform well. However, it's worth noting that the system only provides muzzle velocities, whereas the LR provides velocities at different ranges, which is also useful. Currently, I'm not considering a change, but I do agree that LR may have been complacent for too long, and they might be SOL if Garmin executes this properly.

How do you figure the LR are (nearly) obsolete? Just asking.

My LR does everything that it is supposed to. My only complaint is when on a crowded shooting line, it sometimes (read: sometimes) has difficulties picking up other shooters. Other than that, it measures very accurately. Exactly what I bought it for.

I’ve had a few MagnetoSpeed units too. They do exactly what they are supposed to do as well. Other than altering the harmonics of the barrel. But what are you trying to do? Measure muzzle velocity? Or shoot groups? I think it’s measuring of the speed.

Will the Garmin unit be all that and a bag of roses? Who knows. Why are people so negative? The Garmin unit looks interesting…yes! But really people, why so much hate for other platforms when the newest kid on the block has not been proven by more then a target test group?

I look forward to when the Garmin gets released and into the hands of many more people. Then a larger sample size will tell everyone the real story on the newest flavour of the week.

A black and white tube tv does everything it is supposed to do. It can play tv shows compete with sound, but it is obsolete compared to a flat screen LED tv.

The LR is gigantic in comparison and has some operating quirks including having difficulty with handguns and 22 rifles. It is also more expensive ... which will be the kiss of death for it. Would you pay more for an old B&W tube tv than a flatscreen LED tv? Yea, me neither.

Funny answer. I’m glad I paid less then $600 delivered for my LR. I’ll be waiting for the new kid to prove itself before writing off the other platforms.

Good luck with your new hobby fella.

Oh, in terms of form factor and usability - it definitely looks like Garmin has something that will significantly disrupt the current market. Garmin just put the heat on both of those products - so lets see if the other manufacturers step up their game. Competition in the marketplace is good.

If I was buying new right now, Garmin is definitely what I'd be dropping cash on. I'd be willing to bet that Garmin will out innovate both Labradar and Magnetospeed. However, Labradar (and Magnetospeed) still do the job and I need a new barrel right now more than I need another doppler radar chrony. I will just have to live vicarious through the experiences of others and hope that maybe Labradar will at least try to stay relevant.

:)

From what I have read the FX True Ballistics chronograph has both the Garmin and Labradar beat with tracking out to 400y and BC calculator.
There isn't enough in form factor to get rid of my Labradar.

New hobby? I've been at this for 37 years. How long do I have to be a shooter / reloader before it is no longer considered to be a "new" hobby for me?

This thing is probably going to kill LR, they can't possibly compete with Garmin for manufacturing capabilities, supply chain, or, app development. I've had a LR since they first launched and it's been a troublesome item, sent back at least 3 times for repairs, which they did do, but still, it's been babied and needed fixing 3 times. It's large and clumsy to carry around (and I just friggin ordered a new case for it to, sigh), and you need an external battery pack if you want reliability, especially with Open pistols or magnum rifles, and even then it's not great. As for the app for the LR? it still sucks. It's better than the first one they puked out, but not by much.
It will be very interesting to see what kind of features they start to add to the Garmin app in the next few months, but from what I've seen it's already a much better setup than the LR. Now they just need to make the Garmin unit talk to Practiscore, so we can use it at matches for chrono'ing ammo and have it automatically go into PS.

Did you send that suggestion to the Practiscore app guy? There's an email address that I've used before and that has been a successful path to getting changes into the app.

I Got my unit in Friday and tested it out yesterday. First off talk about easy to use. I never really had a problem with using the Lab, but it always seem to miss a shot or 2 over 30+- shots. This usually happened because of the tripod shifting or something getting out of alignment.

With the Garmin I mounted it to a Area 419 rail and attached it at a random place on the arca rail. Then I shot some drills off a tripod with the Garmin picking up every shot. The speeds it gathered were identical to the ones I pull off a MS a couple weeks ago.

Best part is the Xero and rail fit easily in my range bag and will always be with me.

The Labradar killer! - pretty awesome to catch 5 out 5 shots with a Daisy BB gun

Next batch due in December, email mark@nechakooutdoors.ca to secure yours!

yeah I talk with Eugene fairly often about Practiscore stuff, he needs information from Garmin in order to be able to integrate it into PS like he did with the Pro Chrony. LabRadar had zero interest in doing that, as they were worried allowing someone else access to the data stream would result in other people making apps for it and not use their app......

I just pulled mine out of the box and slapped it onto my tripod. My first impressions.

1. It's tiny.
2. The controls are intuitive. No forgetting to arm it etc.
3. Runs fast, I didn't have any hiccups

I grabbed an FX9 to try out the Garmin since I had problems with my Labradar reading the speed. I tried everything with the settings and even bought a RAT. Still wouldn't work.

I used Blazer 124gr. Yes, I know I don't have sights on it. Still hit my gong 10/10.

I shot 5 shots in pistol mode and then 5 shots in rifle. Kind of interesting the SD was different.

I bought it from Nechako, Mark shipped it out quick. Thanks!

Anyone want to buy a LabRadar?

I'd have expected the velocity difference between rifle and pistol to be much greater. I'd also have expected the SD to be larger for the pistol, due to the short barrel.

A sample size of 5 is way too small to get a good SD. If you shot larger sample groups I'm sure the SD of each would approach each other.

Those were both using the FX9. I used pistol mode on half the mag and rifle on the other.

I literally pulled it out of the box and put it on the tripod. Grabbed a gun and mag to try it out.

That thing is tiny! I bought a quadpod to put my LR over the muzzle, away from the side ported brakes on my ELR rifles. I bet that Garmin would fit under the barrel.
Very nice, I may have to consider trying one out

Yup, I could. But I'm not sure I want to strap an $800 piece of electronics onto my boomers. I'm sure it's made to handle the blast and recoil, but I just don't think my comfort level is there to find out haha.
