BBBeeson: I mentioned the Marine Magnum that because the Express and Police Magnum were seen by the CFC as different variants and required different FRT#s, so it will most certainly be the same with the Marine Magnum.

Hitzy: I understand that there is no legal requirement to change the certificate, however the CFC recommended I do so to identify and acknowledge the shorter than 470mm barrel and still a Non-Restricted firearm. For fun I took my new 870 combo to show a few of local enforcement officers I know well and their first reaction was "Isn't that illegal?". Their next reaction after I explained it was not was "Neat! Where did you get it?"
Since the gun will almost exclusively wear the short barrel I would rather have my reg. certificate identify that the barrel is shorter than 470mm, that will avoid a whole lot of explaining the law to the LEOs if I should ever be checked. Just easier that way.

Cheers

Screw him. Go some where else.

Find a gunsmith who is also a verifier - they'll know the law better and will also be able to fix you up with a new cert. I'd get the updated cert just in case you have to use your local guy for emergencies (ie: unable to eject an unfired round).

oww it gets better
now the verifier will not change the cert as he cant find the info on the frt
even after i gave him the frt # posted on gunutz for a wingmaster with a
14ins 870 p barrle on it.
Is this Bs an ontario thing!
bbb

It's not just Ontario. One of the local verifiers wouldn't touch my 870 "because 14" barrels are illegal". Keep looking. Someone will help you.

HEll, I didnt go through this when I bought a factory remington 14 inch barrel from Williams arms about 4 years ago, called and it was done in about 5 minutes.
It was an express reciever, and they didnt say ####.
Thats weird??????

BTW, I paid 225.00 for the brand new barrel with mod choke and bead sight.

it may also identify you as a target to the Liberals once they are done with Handguns and go to long guns with not so long barrels.. ..

Well from the shop owners perspective he's right.. here is a gun, which he knows nothing about, and it does not match the FRT number on the registration.. why should he take the risk of putting his name anywhere near it.. ??? I'm agreeing with him, but I'm saying there are two sides, and that was probably his..

For the question about "What happens when you want to put your 28" barrel back on".........if you choose to re-register your shorter barrel, just tell them it is now a combo gun and you can register it with the short and long barrels as one "combo" gun.

Also, if anyone in the GTA is having a problem getting short barrels verified drop me a PM.

Bastards at the CFC. Been on the phone with them for days now.

First I call and ask where my new certificate for the Remy is. They say I don't own a Remy. I give them the info and they say it was never transferd to me and the previous owner still owns it still. Finally get that fixed and now they agree I own it (no way I was letting you have it back Wes!).

Next I ask where the new certificate for the 14" barrel is seeing that I sent the paperwork away 2 and 1/2 months ago. They say they've never seen the paperwork I faxed in. I ask if the new FRT number that was created for my gun is active. They say that FRT number does not exist. I call back today to see where we're at (couldn't get through to the registrar of firearms in Ottawa until today, I kept getting disconnected every time I was transfered). CFC confirms that they have never seen the paperwork I sent in and the FRT number I had created does not exist and transfer me finally. The guy from Ottawa does a check and says the FRT number is active and that my certificate was changed a long time ago and shows the 870 with a 14" barrel now.

Tells me to call a tech guy tomorrow and see why the computers at the CFC don't show what his computer in Ottawa shows.

Nice to see things moving so smoothly at the CFC.

well called the CFC yesterday .
They have nothing saying that a change in barrle was send down from the registra .
So she will "look into it"
Get the feeling they they don,t want me to have that 14ins BBL.
Thats ok i have 3 others :)
