Less than 26" OAL and you've created a prohibited weapon.

You can not modify an existing barrel to be shorter than 18.5" either. As long as you maintain those two minimum lengths you can shorten it without changing it from non-restricted.

Thanks to NaOH for doing that. To carry it one step further I called CFC and spoke to their firearms tech regarding the 12.5" Dlask barrels. They didn't have that combination registered in the system...but as of today they now have two new FRT #s:

FRT# 37269-19 Remington 870 Express with 12.5" barrel
FRT# 122742-8 Remington 870 Police Magnum with 12.5" barrel

Apparently you just need to put in a request to Amend your registration certificate to account for the new short barrel.

And thanks to Dean at Dlask I have one coming to me to torture test :D :D

Cheers

Thanks for the info Guys! Will be building a Rem 870 Express with the Dlask 12.5" barrel and sling mount. Should be lots of fun! Mabey a combo deal with the 18"? ....Mike

So, for those who are just tuning-in:

- FRT# 37269-18 Remington 870 Express with 14" barrel
- FRT# 37269-19 Remington 870 Express with 12.5" barrel
- FRT# 38294-56 Remington 870 Wingmaster with 14" barrel
- FRT# 122742-8 Remington 870 Police Magnum with 12.5" barrel

If you have multiple barrels for your shotgun, it must be registered as a combo?

?????

The guys at Dlask said no problem. Its not restricted with a 14" barrel. ? But after reading this should I re-register it as a combo gun ? The 14" is not going to be on all the time.

FRT#:2116-4
Remington Sportsman Magnum with 12.5" barrel, OAL 30".

As provided by Barb from the RCMP Tech department?

So what exactly changes on the new cert?Does it just say barel less than 470mm? Or does it state the actual length like 12.5 Dlask.I bought a new Express and it already states that the barel is less than 470mm.

Same here... mine says less than 470mm and it is less than 470mm. You shouldn't need to do anything else.

let me get this straight.

I can put an 18inch barrel on my wingmaster. This would be a restricted firearm?

Is it legal for a gunsmith to just shorten a 30 inch to a 18.5 inch?

Please help.

thx.

If it's a factory made barrel no problem stayin non-restricted.

Yes it is.

thx.

Where do you measure a shottie barrel from?

Where do you measure a shottie barrel from?
Muzzle to receiver?
Muzzle to extractor?

I believe they measure semi pistols from the breech to the muzzle but they measure revolver barrels from muzzle to forcing cone.

Wondering if there is some ridiculous measurement process for shottie barrels too?

Want to be sure for the 18.5 in thing happens.

Do the really use imperial measure, ents for the definition or is it all metric and the 18.5in is referenced by others?

Here is a 14" barrel by remington...

Hmmm! I was just looking at my registration certificates and my 870 18" and HP9 14" both say under 470mm, but my AR15's all list exact barrel length in mm, or at least what they think the measurements are since they list them as 508mm and 496mm for two 20" barrels. Actually, one of them was sold to me as the receiver only, noticed that they had a barrel length listed so I tried to tell the CFC that it was a lower only, they refused to change it, told me to get it verified.

So what's up with the different measurements? Does it all depend on when it was registered or who's doing the paperwork?

Anybody got an FRT # for an Ithaca 37 with 14" barrel. I'm gonna need to get mine re-verified real soon.:D
