Its probably that weird my little pony cat guy .. He comes off like a trader with all his China propaganda crap ..

Price increases are entirely indicative of 2 things:
-decreased purchasing power of the currency of the buyer
-increased purchasing power of the currency of the seller

Currency is entirely controlled by the Government and their lackeys in the central and commercial banks - and the preferred strategy of bankrupt, service based economies (like Canada) is for the government and banks to debase the currency by going into debt, flood the economy with currency and hope that people run out and dump their currency to stimulate economic growth, because clearly it is not a store of value. This of course leads to a substantial decrease in the standard of living, as anyone who denominated their wealth in the local currency have to work harder and harder to earn less and less.

Prudent, governments (like China) encourage savings and development of productive capital that generate goods that have global demand (like inexpensive rifles), allowing the country through exports to build and accumulate reserves (national savings) which in turn strengthens their currency - resulting in a substantial increase in the purchasing power of the currency, raising the standard of living as the people earn more and can purchase more with their currency holdings.

Everyone has assumed China will always be an industrial serf to the west, continuing to slave away, providing cheap goods to the western world. Over the past 20 years, while Western Democracies (read: government) like Canada have been racking up more and more debt, China has been saving up the fruits of their labour and what you are seeing and will continue to see in the foreseeable future is Chinese goods increasing in price - as the most conducive element of a good standard of living is low cost for the goods and services you enjoy (most of which, today, come from China).

I'm oddly enough, NOT pro-China. I'm pro free markets and non-interventionalism. That is why I am fascinated by and have deep respect for Canadian firerams businesses who prove time and time again that free markets can entirely side step government regulation in a legal fashion. Also, it is fascinating to see the free market at work in the firearms industry, even though it is the most highly government intervened industry in Canada (besides health care).

I've been thinking to get an M14 - this may well tip the balance.

Well, that cinched it! I just joined the club and ordered one. Couldn't resist. This and having just ordered the 1911A Norinco special a couple of weeks ago and a Russian SKS last weekend. That'll hold me for a bit.
