NEW ITEM: Dominion Arms Socom 18

My bolt catch would not hold back after I took out the mag, hoping the next smith enterprise enhanced bolt catch will help.

Thanks for the replies.

Do you mean to say on the bolt catch itself? As in cured with a replacement catch? Cheers

Correct. The holes in the receiver that the catch is pinned to appeared to be correct. An in-spec catch should fix it, though we haven't tried to swap his out yet. We're going to do that this week.

what is the difference between these? anyone care to explain? thanks in advance.

The Dominion Arms M14 Rifle is a replica of the M1A Springfield and the DA socom 18 is a close replicas of the Springfield socom 16.

Socom has 18.5" barrel with a reversible muzzle brake, and the other M14 is 22" barrel with the original style m14 muzzle brake. And few slight other differences, but pretty much the same.

Edit:ALSO, read this entire thread, and it will explain a lot more

It is probable that Chris has held back a few for warrantee replacement. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more for sale once everyone has had a chance to #####.
With all the negative experiences, he may have held back more than normal.

SOCOM18 in Sage Chassis - *BIG PICS*

I dropped my SOCOM18 into a Sage chassis this weekend, and got it out to the range. Only put 100 rounds through it, all readily digested without complaint (Norc brass cased, Norc steel cased, Winchester Super X 150gr, Hornady 168gr).

Some Pics:

It's cold and rainy, but the rig doesn't care.

Attempt to get a pic of the finish, SEI bolt stop in action!

Butstock extended to comfort:

SOCOM3.JPG

My observations:
- Mine seems to shoot a little bit low with irons (elevation bottomed out)
- Finish really seems nicer than other examples (07 through '12 Norcs as comparisons)
- When I get a really good cheek weld, I 'hear' the vibrations of the gun (during & after a shot)
-> This is weird, I thought I'd knocked off my hearing protection a couple times until I realized sound was moving through direct contact
-> Hear a 'ringing' after the shot, take my face off the the stock, all ok - put it back on hear the ringing again slowly getting quieter.
- I shot exclusively with the flash hider / brake reversed. I didn't really notice the fireball at all during the day
- I couldn't get ANY of my 'enhanced' spring guides to work, NEA, Sadlak or others (so stuck with the stock one!)

The Rig:
- '13 SOCOM18 with flash hider reversed
- SEI bolt stop/release installed
- Sadlak magazine release installed
- Sage M14ALCS stock
- Sage clip guide rail
- SEI EBR chassis selector cutout cover

To do:
- Going to see how an SEI M14DV Vortex (2000V) flash hider works
- If the M14DC mounts up nicely, going to see about mounting an Armasight AIM-14 & NYX-14 (and NV inforce WML)

For giggles tried this out in the living room, and it's not going to work without some changes!

SOCOM4-NOPE.JPG

Irons block mounting on the stripper clip rail, and it's way too far forward on the Sage front rail. DCSM or CASM would be needed.... My hope is actually to get happy with a 1-4x (non NV) mounted between the chassis and the stripper clip rail.

Overall pretty happy with the SOCOM18 so far!

That looks great.
Still debating between sage and blackfeather myself. The weight is my only issue with the sage.
Havent seen the blackfeather first hand but I hear its pretty light.

The Blackfeather is definitely significantly lighter. It's possible to do some really light builds with it for sure.

I purchased a rail to replace the stripper clip guide. I removed the roll pin from the stripper clip guide with a roll pin punch with no problems. But... I can't tap out the stripper clip guide from its dovetail! It's solid! Any suggestions?
I tried soaking wd-40 into the cracks but it seems to have done nothing. I'm worried I will damage the receiver if I hit the clip guard too hard.

Otherwise sweet rifle!

I had to bang my pretty good to get it out.(heavy hammer works better) Little bit at a time. Good flat punch and have the rifle and or reciever secured well. Mine was tough right till the end. Took me a while to get it out. Just keep working on it a little at a time.

Doesn't it come out better one way than the other?
I just re-installed mine on my older m14, and it seemed to slide easier from the bolt release side.

Ok, finally got my two to the range, the front sight indeed needed to be tapped over a fair amount, wasnt even on paper at 50 yards, that said, I got a long and a socom, they both shot beautifully, now time for the upgrades :D

Interesting...I've had the same experience. With anything but the stock spring guide, the bolt/op rod stays jammed at the rearmost point of travel, although a firm tap will release it. It works okay out of the stock, but in the stock, with the trigger group in place, it locks back. That's with an NEA, a M14.ca and a Sadlac guide. I'd love to figure this one out, since the spring guide is the easiest upgrade possible.

I'm going to transfer this to the Main Battle Rifle forum. Any issues with upgrades or tuning tweaks are more likely to get an expert's attention there than in this thread.

Now this looks ###y as hell!!!
