NEW ITEM: Dominion Arms Socom 18

Very nice. could you take some pictures from right side of M305? thanks.

I dropped my SOCOM18 into a Sage chassis this weekend, and got it out to the range. Only put 100 rounds through it, all readily digested without complaint (Norc brass cased, Norc steel cased, Winchester Super X 150gr, Hornady 168gr).

Some Pics:

It's cold and rainy, but the rig doesn't care.

Attempt to get a pic of the finish, SEI bolt stop in action!

Butstock extended to comfort:

My observations:
- Mine seems to shoot a little bit low with irons (elevation bottomed out)
- Finish really seems nicer than other examples (07 through '12 Norcs as comparisons)
- When I get a really good cheek weld, I 'hear' the vibrations of the gun (during & after a shot)
-> This is weird, I thought I'd knocked off my hearing protection a couple times until I realized sound was moving through direct contact
-> Hear a 'ringing' after the shot, take my face off the the stock, all ok - put it back on hear the ringing again slowly getting quieter.
- I shot exclusively with the flash hider / brake reversed. I didn't really notice the fireball at all during the day
- I couldn't get ANY of my 'enhanced' spring guides to work, NEA, Sadlak or others (so stuck with the stock one!)

The Rig:
- '13 SOCOM18 with flash hider reversed
- SEI bolt stop/release installed
- Sadlak magazine release installed
- Sage M14ALCS stock
- Sage clip guide rail
- SEI EBR chassis selector cutout cover

To do:
- Going to see how an SEI M14DV Vortex (2000V) flash hider works
- If the M14DC mounts up nicely, going to see about mounting an Armasight AIM-14 & NYX-14 (and NV inforce WML)

For giggles tried this out in the living room, and it's not going to work without some changes!

Irons block mounting on the stripper clip rail, and it's way too far forward on the Sage front rail. DCSM or CASM would be needed.... My hope is actually to get happy with a 1-4x (non NV) mounted between the chassis and the stripper clip rail.

Overall pretty happy with the SOCOM18 so far!

Wow, after reading your last three posts all I can do is shake my head lol. I guess all I want to ask is, what makes the 5.56 pure garbage but the 7.62x39 "Ok" ?

And for the future, next time , 'as per your message' if you are going to say "I am a hunter, if I were going to hunt (Insert animal here)" Remember that there is a huge difference between hunting, and just killing. (Not saying there is anything wrong in it, but if a coywolf is getting to close to the chicken coop, and you blast it, you didnt HUNT it, you KILLED it :D)

You need to factor in Nova Scotia law.

I can not merely hike in the woods with a gun for self defense.

I MUST be hunting something, and the only thing I can hunt year round is coyotes.

So, if I want to go for a hike in coyowolf / bear country, which i do all the time, I need to have my coyotee hunting license and a gun for hunting said game.

Sadly this limits me to a 12G or 223.........

but unless they try to hurt me or my family they are just fine..........

so legally im hunting

but im not actually hunting anything....... just hiking.

:)

so how are these for reliablility vs the full length and can someone link me to the pic ( i assume it is here somewhere) of the full length and this one side by side?

Tried one of mine out seems good front sight was a bit off and the mag fits borderline to tight maybe it needs to be broke in at least to do fast mag changes lol

They will wear in apparently, mine are also very much stuck in there :)
I have to put the muzzle into the ground to push the mag out ATM...

The top of the magazine release is too sharp on mine, so the mags stick. Whacking them out with a hammer is one option, but I recommend a bit of minor filing.;)

I am more then happy with mine. I loaded up some 150gr sp with 41.3gr IMR 4895 got the muzzel reversed and screwed in tight shoots some nice fire balls. Still got oil coming out some where even though I pulled it apart cleaned it and greased it thought I got it all guess not. Scope mount and Scopes next. Any suggestions on a budget range scope ?

Here's my two.

THANK YOU

I already have full size, and this one isnt quite short enough for me........

I want short....real short. some of the internals would need to be cut down a bit...say the 4 inches of the front end of the stock gone completely

and an ar15 style bustock or folding stocks or collapseible stock

love the rail on that, nice

nice gun but ill hold out for the next shorter version yet to come :)

Got mine yesterday, unpacked, striped and cleaned last night. Receiver/Bolt fit and finish are appear fine, safety is quite stiff, mags tight but I think that with use they'll be fine. Gas system is solid. Barrel seems over indexed slightly, but likely won't be a major factor.. Stock is good, no sharp edges, good fit/finish, some glue residue - but removed quite easily.

Rear sight assembly is giving me some problems, have disassembled and reassembled a couple of times... When I unpacked the rifle the elevation worked fine, but the windage knob wouldn't rotate at all... Nothing seems stripped, but the windage knob seems to tighten itself into the sight base and when I attempt to adjust left....
