I experienced the same problem and re indexing the barrel fixed it.
I got yer backs!Nobody's #### is gonna fall off !
And for the record, I don't get paid for doing anybody's re-indexing!
Cheers,
Barney
uneven lugs, another staple of a norinco, that will open the group right up.... but I would be more worried about the barrel coming off the reciever at an angle. that cannot be fixed and is a bad reciever. I can't be sure because Im not holding the rifle myself but in that picture When I took a strait edge to it I can see it coming out at a angle to the right.
I have one, no regrets at all she shoots flawlessly and accurately to 500m. Rough, yes. Its at battle rifle, not a beauty contest. The mag maybe tight as some of the lugs are welded too far down. Its not the rifle. Just drumel a bit off the bottom of the lug.
Binding of the op-rod is likely due to the indexing problem. The op-rod only fits in the track properly if the op rod guide is centered, otherwise the angle will cause the track to torque the op-rod...
(it may cause the op-rod to pop out of the track as well while firing... )
Don't listen to the neigh sayers.
The m305 is an excellent platform for two things. One, a cheap but power full fun gun
Two, a build platform.
My basic $400 rifle plus $1200 in accessories has put my gun on par with the $2300 rifles made by the states
People need to know what they are buying and what they are buying it for.
I wouldn't spend $1200 on a Chinese copy $400 rifle. You still have a $400 rifle. You would be better off buying a gun made in the USA and be proud to own it and not have to tell people it's a Chinese copy. Why drink poopsi when you can drink Pepsi.

That blackfeather is the reason I went with the Norc. Very cool stock for a great pricePrice included a 600$ blackfeather!
Luxury item but worth it.
I broke down and bought one last weekend, but only because Jo Brook was selling them for $399 at the Brandon show and I was able to inspect it beforehand. From the info here I think I have a decent example. If the indexing is off then I can't detect it. Barrel looks like it came out of an amateur lathe class, but the bolt lockup and sights seem ok. I'm still going to test fire it tied to an old tyre, however.
wow, you lucked out and that's a great price! was this for the shorty?
The problem is -- in my case -- If I try to "fix up" this crappy looking "new" rifle, I'd still have a rifle that looked like it was assembled by someone who just came off a bender AND I would have sunk more money into it.
Kind of like putting fancy big rims and a spoiler on 1.5L Honda Civic with crooked doors and saying it was a Lexus sports car.
Sounds more like a money pit. Not as good a deal as I had hoped.
Had I known that the rifle I would receive would have looked like this, I would not have purchased it. For the same reason, I don't buy anything that has the disclaimer "Sold As Is". I had no intention of purchasing a "fixer-upper"
I'm glad those of you who have the inclination to tinker with things enjoy working on "fixer-uppers". It's just not for me and not what I intended to do with this purchase.
Update....
OddShot is on his way home as I type this. The re-index took longer to apply masking tape and clamp up the parallels. Photo to be posted soon by Oddshot when he gets home safely.
Gas cylinder shimmed with 2 shims x 8 thou and Oddshot used the Sadlak gas cylinder wrench to crank that lock down to the 6 o'clock position. Nice and snug. Yeah, we tried the 180 fix, but BOTH final position settled at 12 o'clock... go figure!
The flash suppressor was welded on Friday afternoon around 1500 because a few taps and it came off!
Op rod guide was loose as all the USGI 12.5 rifles I used to compete with (read: plays Jingle Bells when you shake the front end of the barrel). Hammered a bunch of dimples 360 degrees around the op rod guide on the barrel and re-installed after whacking it BACK into place with plastic hammer and flat punch. Tight as heck. No red Loctite needed. New pin 1/8" x 3/4" installed. Life is good.
Hammered the 3 splines on gas cylinder interface on the barrel , then hammered the 3 splines on the flash suppressor. Remember; never watch me put together a match rifle (read: HOLY Hammer used)
Greased the entire rifle where it was needed and then greased the trigger group at the sear and hammer interface, hammer face and nose. Trigger was smooth from the high school shop class. Not bad, I say. I was impressed
Here's the biggest surprise.... The rear sights worked. Holy feces!
No need to rush out and buy Italian sourced M1 Garand rear sight knobs YET!
This rifle is a keeper! Damn... I never shoulda revealed these 'green light' discoveries. I shoulda offered him $ 300 CASH (Like Oliver Jewelry in Toronto, I'm da KashMan.... I give you money for your old gold, OH YEAH!). You Toronto dudes know how annoying those TV adverts are!
Now he has to smooth things out by firing 300 x 7.62mm MFS through that barrel while simultaneously yelling, "Fzck you, GI!" just like in "Defense of Firebase Gloria" movie with R Lee Ermey. LOL
So, who else wants to visit me for an M14 tuneup? You are gonna do all the work, not me! LOL ha ha ha ha
Return? Weeee don't need no stinkin' return (back to the dealer, I mean) !!
Cheers all,
Barney
