New Off Road Vehicle Laws in BC

We've needed plates on ORV's in MB for decades, unless they're used exclusively on private land. Costs about $50/year, which is liability only. If you want theft/collision/fire, then figure $250 and up depending on value. Hunters and trappers are exempt from helmets. IIRC.
I also thought this was standard practice across Canada.

why would they need to? they just need to find the vehicle you towed in your ORV with and wait or get you coming out to the main road and fine you for no registration now that every ORV will require one regardless of it being on a trailer when you are stopped.

With all the lakes and camp grounds in the interior, how would they know where you are parked?
Years ago one chap sporting the law tried catching us young fellers on his enduro. We went down Suicide Hill and he stopped
at the top. We pointed where chickenchit pass was.
So down he comes and up Suicide we went.
He looked up and we cheered him to come on up. He said potty mouth words to us.
It was so funny.
Of course back then we were riding YZ490's. Slight increase to his 250.
Even at my age and my 200, I'm am almost certain they wouldn't be able to find me
out there unless a chopper was brought in.
Who said the rider needs to go back to his truck?

That sucks I am already getting into enough trouble with the cops for riding my Rokon to the beach even though I am on the Rez!
Here I thought the cops just didn't like me haahaa

Get your wallets out BC boys. This is following the Ontario model where plates, drivers licences and mandatory helmet use and insurance are in place. Won't be long that a mandatory operator's course will surface (with a fee of course) like the boating law. Just a money grab. I like the lame remark that it will target irresponsible ORV operators. This will only target the honest guy with a few bucks.

I can tell you the revenue that the government gets from the boating course does not cover the program costs. now some instructor companies may be doing well, but it does not help the federal bottomline by much. Now large ship inspection fees make money and as I recall they are still cheaper than the market rate.

One thing that this may help with is the theft of vehicles. A lot of them wind up in provinces that do not have registration.

So? Keep your owners manual with the serial number, make model and colour. This goes on CPIC Canada wide as stolen. You don't need a licence plate which would be immediately discarded by thieves.

This is a money grab. First you pay for registration along with plates then insurance will be manditory. Insurance although it's not on a roadway etc. What does the insurance cover? I'm pretty sure wildlife federation etc offers liability insurance already.

As for the BS media releases... It will provide value and savings to the owners the same way water metres and smart metres will create huge cost savings for home owners (anyone having gone through either of those knows you'll pay more not less).

An estimated 200,000 ORVs are used in the province and B.C. is currently one of the last provinces in Canada where registration of ORVs is not required, according to the provincial government. Conversely, snowmobiles have been registered in B.C. since the 1970s.

Uhhmm Realy? they have? what.. guess i forgot to register.. my last 9 sleds...

So icbc says I can no longer make my off road DRZ 400 road worthy back in 2009 and insure it, and now they want me to register it... F#ck them!

I still boat with out a boaters license.... I've been stopped more then once I simply just go good day officer I'm wearing my lifejackets like you want and not bugging anyone. They just go ok we will give you a warning. I simply say I'm still not getting it. How many years has it been many I simply already know all the rules and don't feel like taking a test. I follow all the rules and don't cause problems. If your stupid then they get you like if you run away. They changed the rules more then once it used to be by size then all motor boats. They didn't know what to do with a pedal boat since it looked like I had a motor on it since they go really fast for a small boat. Human powered boats are the only boat you can use no more sail boats too I just went screw it why bother.

The reason they stopped allowing people to insure certain bikes is because they don't have a DOT safety stamp on them so if they insure them the company can't be sued if something goes wrong making ICBC have to pay out instead of them and they don't like it. It's a lawyer thing that they simply went we screwed you on it.

They want people riding a bike to wear a helmet I only do that when I do down hill/trail stuff. Other then that nope don't care. Legal or not the cops have better things to do then enforce the stupid laws. I just ask them do you really want to do all that paperwork for something like that? They go hell no...

Last year there was a heavy-handed crackdown on boat licensing and boat registration on Haida Gwaii
In fact they were seizing bolts you had to show them the registration to prove it belong to you before he could even get it back
They were seizing boats left and right around here

I'm going to try and find a better rate this year, anyone know a good place for dirtbike insurance in AB? I think I'm overpaying.

I paid $190 for insurance on a YZ450F through Wawanesa. First time I ever bothered with insurance and a plate. I used to leave my house and take dirt roads to my riding area. About six years ago the Mounties started bringing out a Rhino to catch guys. I felt embarrassed for them. The only people they could catch were on old Honda trikes. Then two years ago they started bringing out RZRs. I have heard from multiple people that they wait till they hear you coming and then block the trail and demand papers. If BC goes the same way I feel really bad for you. It sucks. Has nothing to do with safety or solving crimes. All about control.

you wouldn't be getting caught on crown land then if it always stayed private. Exiting an area with just crown land is self explanatory to police and with ICBC on board they control all your rights to future vehicle registrations and drivers licence renewal in BC, when push comes to shove they win.

ptivate land riding is a no brainer, the landowners insurance will cover any accidents or his land will, that is good enough for the authorities

You can drag things out for years and years if you really want to go that way. Then ask for everything in writing if they refuse because you owe them money then file a small claims for damages as you require insurance and a license to make a living and they're violating your charter right to make a living. The law also states they have to insure every single person in BC that's the mandate that's why they control all road insurance because the law forces them to give it to you. You can fight them if you want to spend more money and time you could win but it's not normally worth it.

Meh, i wheel my daily driver so thats taken care of, my 2 seater sand rail however... Damn
Whats next ORV safety inspections?

all cops do today is hand out fines, not sure where you are finding these officers that are tired of even only doing that

I can be wrong but That is what I believe is happening here because our little islands has been in a steady state of political and legal battles both provincially and federally that are small communities have been targeted
You watch this will hit the mainland And travel south forcing everybody to comply

sue them for what?, they don't refuse you, they just make it too costly for you to afford because of all your tickets and then finally pull your license for refusing to pay your fines. ICBC is a monopoly in BC, if they say you owe them money (they also collect for bridge tolls and the RCMP in BC) you don't get insurance or a license come renewal time.

Under our new drunk driving laws (most strict in canada) Judges/ICBC have already ruled driving is a privaledge and not a right, how do you plan to change this if what you posted above is correct?
