New S&W model 66 with Canada 4.25" barrel!

They also list a Model 67 ( in 4 inch unfortunately), one of my all time favorites along with the Model 15 of course. I just wish they still came with a nice
pair of the good old S&W wood stocks.

Still have my Model 64 and the wood stocks are just so much nicer to look at.

It's certainly a great looking revolver, but I always had much harder time to qualify with 64 than with 10 due to the shiny sights.
Very limited sight picture, especially against light color targets. No problem with that on the blued 10 and 66 with the adjustable rear black sight and red front insert should be delightful as well.

It might be the case that the stainless steel barrel has superior resistance to flame erosion of the forcing cone than carbon steel. If it is the case that barrel/frame cracking at the bottom of the forcing cone really is less of an issue with the 66 versus the 19, that may be an explanation.

Interesting, thanks

Weren't people complaining about the quality of the new 4.2" S&W 44mag revolvers that they bought a few months back??? Looks like a nice piece but the old ones were always made better...

I know that many of our friends south of the border are not overly thrilled about many of the features found on the new 66.

I have an older model 29 from the 80's, Its my only Smith and Wesson I own and I probably will not be buying any newer ones until that quality comes back up to where it should be.

Beggars cannot choose so if someone wants a shorter Model 66, this will be your choice if you are not 12.6. I am not a fan of the new S&W action but if you have no choice and really want the shorter barrel, fill your boots. I might have an older gun with the better action cut down to 4.25 before I buy one of these. There are some really nicely done barrel shortening jobs I have seen.

I hear ya. I bought a pre dash model 66 so it had no red insert and the rears were stainless as well. To compensate the previous owner had painted the front post red with god knows what, but
I had a bugger of a time getting it off without damaging the original finish - I suspect it was red nail polish. I've never come across a model 10 with a red insert, so where a model 64 like mine might
suffer on a light background, the model 10 suffers to a much greater degree on a dark background - or so I've found. And, in case you're wondering, my 64 is so shiney because I've prepped it to have
the satin finish re-done.

Very nice indeed. Congratulations. 64s are great revolvers for sure.

It's a 19 done by MDCharlton with a matte blued finish. I couldn't be happier with it. Love the k frames.

Yah, the Combat Magnums are pretty much top of the line for the .357s in a K-frame. Love the stocks on your Smith as well; nice to see something in wood, that everyone else
is doing in rubber - pricey, I'm sure, but very, very nice.

Thanks Nestor, Model 10's and 64's are great revolvers, but my ultimate .38 Special K-frame Smith is still a Model 15-3 (possibly a 15-4), or a pre dash Model 67.
To my eye, the K-38 Combat Masterpiece peaked in the late 60's, early 70's with those Smith & Wessons. Maybe one day I'll find one worth buying.

I'm pumped, a CDN compliant Model 66 has been at the top of my wish list for a long time. Any dealers or anyone have a guess to when these will be available up here?

Guys just got back from ShotShow, wow Smith & Wesson was not a disappointment this year, a lot of great new guns and a hell of a lot better Staff at Shot this year!
First off the 4.2" model 66 was real nice at first glance, held well and balanced beautifully in the hands, the rubber grips were a huge improvement on all the new models, not sure what make?
The new model 66 feels and points just like an original 66 4" model, but if you think your going to get the fit and Finnish like the original model 66, you are mistaken!
The finish is OK I guess sort of a muted satin stainless, the best I can say about that?
The real unfortunate part I did not like was the MIM trigger and hammer, they worked real welli in both single and soluble action, but they looked horrible !!! I guess my expectations were a little to high for the New Production Era Revolvers?
I found no difference in the trigger pulls between the standard revolvers and the performance centre guns?
I went to look at the 9mm Lframe performance centre revolver wich I thought I would buy as soon as I picked it up, but it isn't for me? The surprise revolver was the L frame 5 shot 44 Mag matte finish 4.25" revolver! Now this here is the perfect carry bear/defence gun,5 shot well balanced with just enough weight not to hurt you when shooting, and compactness that compliment each other :)
The other new revolver I looked at was the 9 mm N frame 6.5" compensated stainless revolver , talked to The designer/S&W shooter Jerry Micilich, great guy! I asked why was it comped? Well mostly for speed and target acquisition was his awnser.
You better have large hands to fit the factory grips provided, the only complaint again is the MIM trigger and Hammer, the trigger seemed to me no better than an off the shelf Smith?
Overall S&W have made available a lot of new/reintroduced revolvers, just don't expect the fit finish to come close to your vintage S&W revolver of yesteryear , it isn't going to happen.
Cheers Dale Z
