New Sask Regulations, .223 owners may be happy

I've already had a couple of guy happily tell me they can now shoot deer and coyotes at the same time with their 223 rifles. They don't want to hear about bullet weight or construction. I see lots of wounded mulies in the future, maybe that is somebodys convoluted way to reduce populations in some areas.

So... lobby the minister of sask environment to fix this. I did the day it came out... we need numbers.

They actually did fix it a little. At first, the act banned "centerfire cases" below minimum length and made no mention of rimfire... which effectively made it completely legal to shoot a moose with a 22 rimfire. They have since amended that portion.

We need more people writing in to ask that the .223 & 22-250 be excluded and the 357 mag, 44-40, and 45 colt be reinstated. There probably hasn't been more than 6 write in... if hundreds do, maybe they'll fix it? We had respectable numbers contacting goodale and trudeau to express our disdain about C71 and any premise of a ban... we need attention to this too. I reached out to Sask Wildlife Federation, CCFR, NFA, & CSSA... every one of whom I am a paid member of... and heard back from.... NONE

Find a more useful sword to fall on. Unbelievable.

We see the suffering game either way regardless of chambering, I'd love a 1-8 or 1-9 22 call rifle.

I actually think the ones that chose to use their 22 cal center fire are going to be more diligent than we give them credit for.

Everyone always assumes the worst.

I agree. There are animals wounded every year regardless of caliber. A fast twist 22 caliber is nothing to take for granted. I had a 22-284 with a 8 twist that shot 80 gr Bergers at 3550-3600 fps with N570. Was I under gunned because it was a 22 caliber?

If is wasn't elk season, I'd take a 22-250 deer hunting. Don't know why guys think they should lobby the gov't to restrict the choices of others.

that's why I like hunting in Alberta - 357 mag is a great deer/black bear round within 100yds...... been using a lever and bolt action for decades......

It wasn't long ago that AB had had case length restriction that disallowed the 7.62x39 and 44 mag.

So the .222 Remington is a okay yet the .44 Rem Mag is out? Strangeness.....

i guess it comes down to true ballistics....44mag/357mag pistol rounds and put them in a rifle takes the life out of them in the long range. Take that same caliber (caliber only) and outfit it with a rifle casing and now you have the capability of stopping a pissed off buffalo (chuck hawkes....chuckhawkes.com) has a great article on this....so that little 44 magnum in a pistol can cut down a tree in a pistol however if you see a bear and that 44 mag is in a rifle...climb the tree fast!
same as a 22/223/224....put this in a tiny 22lr which is got a range of about 75 yards...put that same chunk of copper/lead under a rifle casing and all of a sudden the caliber has half or near half the ft/lbs as a 30-06...
I will take a RIFLE (true rifle) round hunting...not a pistol round (put in a rifle) hunting for the big game. i would say this is what the rule is getting at

I shot a big whitetail at 100+ yards with a 62gr .223 core lokt and it was the cleanest, fastest kill I’ve had in a while. It turned the organs it hit into mush. Anyone who says .223 is unethical has no clue.

Adamthebad I am not comparing rifles to handguns as its kind of moot argument in Canada.
Also deer hunting at normal woods ranges. Both of those cartridges out of a long gun at 75-100 yards.
This is my ruler friend.

yes i understand what You are saying but that is the agenda for someone with a bit less ballistic savy designed on the rule of the 223

These new rules are BS. Why is .357 mag and 44-40 not allowed? This is the only place I have ever seen with such arbitrary caliber restrictions
