New Sask Regulations, .223 owners may be happy

If it all killed the same then why the need for regulations?

Riddle me this and riddle me that................

Bear head on , it's angry - 300 WM , 223 , or Slick Trick?

Moose broadside 150 yards - 300 WM , 223 , or Slick Trick?

Coyote at 375 yards - 300 WM , 223 , or Slick Trick?

White tail at 35 yards - 300 WM , 223 , or Slick Trick?

I hunt with bow, medium and large rifle and black powder , if you want to anchor something you need to transfer energy, or in Doglegs terms, it's relative to the amount of light you let into the animal.

Everything has limitations, hence the regulations.

Nobody will convince me or many others that a bow has more killing potential than a 30/06.

So you want the government to tell you what you can use, rather than using common sense and learned judgment?

So you want the government to tell you what you can use, rather than using common sense and learned judgment?

I'm going to use what I feel is best within those regulations.

Unfortunately in this case there has to be some controls, not all have common sense and learned judgement.

I know people that use ball ammo hunting, mind you , you can't explain to them not to.

Also I think for new and up and coming hunters that it is not a bad idea to have a bit of structure, not much different than mentoring I suppose, not everybody has access to someone with knowledge plus it looks like the governing bodies actually give a hoot with what happens to the game.

But, at the end of the day people are still going to use what they want , some whether it falls within the guidelines or not.

We listen to the government at red lights and intersections. ;)

I can't wait for a front page story in the Star Phoenix featuring black gun carrying hunters and interviews with little Mrs Acreage owners wife being horrified by the "assault rifle carrying rednecks". It won't matter whether it's right or wrong.

I'm not overly worried about the guy who's been picking off gophers all spring and summer with his varmint rifle being able to execute some deer chops. I imagine that some will do it to say they did, and go back to their big game rifles shortly after.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to sort through rifle cartridges, while 40 caliber round balls are OK, arrows are OK but spears that are vicious by comparison are illegal. Expecting logic from SERM is expecting too much.

You think those types of hunters will actually get out of the truck?

I see those regulations are mighty effective then. If people won't listen to that part of the regs, what makes you think they will listen to other parts?

As for not having access to the required knowledge, I call bull####. The internet is full of it. So are books and magazines. Any new hunter has to pass a hunter Ed test of some sort too...

Do you follow the regulations in your jurisdiction or just do what you want?

I follow the regulations. However, if there weren't any regs I wouldn't be taking my 22lr to chase moose. In my case, doing what I want happens to line up with the regs. I don't need the government to tell me what is a good choice - and clearly you know some people who make poor decisions even though the government tells them not to, so that obviously doesn't work too well either so...

However , you do follow them.

You, we , all of us, do as they say a lot more than what we think we do, spin it as you want that is the truth.

You have people that follow the regulations and people that don't, problem is when regulations are conceived they typically look at what the wrong people are doing wrong, not what the right people are doing right.

There has to be some form of structure within reasonable amounts.

If they said you cannot hunt with 30 cal rifles and that is all you had , what would you do?

Try to get such nonsense appealed.
