So I showed my 12.5" shotty with pistol grip installed to a family relation who happens to be a RCMP member. His jaw dropped and said that isnt legal , we debated and looked at the justice website. In the end I asked this question "If you saw someone with this shotgun in this configuration what would you do even if I show you the FRC?" his reply was "I would confiscate it and make you prove it was legal before it was returned". So the I asked the same question with the full stock installed and he replied that i't wouldn't be an issue because it was over 26". :runaway:

Well obviously we're going to have an issue with this until it becomes better known.

We had the same problem with the 'backpacker' shotgun, and it actually was over 26 inches.

Well, I was in one of the gun shop in Hamilton....there were at least 5 of pistol grip shotgun over there for sale....

I don't really find it shocking that a cop would look at a pistol gripped shotgun that is less then 26 1/4" as being restricted or prohib... Up untill last year I would have said the same thing and while I'm hoping for the best with the Dlask case it seems to me that the spirit of the original rule/law was to make anything shorter then 26 1/4" restricted or prohib.

Hard to say. Problem is we've never really had a 'good' definition of a handgun.

personally, i'd define a handgun as a device that is designed to be shot and operated with one hand. Which means that once loaded, you should be able to arm, aim and fire all of it's loaded ammo one handed.

Obviously a revolver would qualify - you keep shooting till you're out. And so would a semi auto that's able to be fired one handed. But the shotguns require two hands to operate. Even if you could aim them accurately (questionable) you couldn't discharge all their ammo without using two hands, and they're obviously designed for two handed operation.

But that's just me - there's no LAW defining that.

Today people make a pistol out of a M4.....

Who can tell the difference between pistol and long gun?
