New SK trespassing laws coming soon

I do not see the problem with having to ask permission first to hunt on private land. I have been on both sides as a landowner and a hunter. Up here we have a regular elk season that starts Sept 15th so you get a bunch of morons from out of town chasing elk through standing and swathed fields, people cutting fences and leaving gates open. It gets to be a real gong show especially when you find bullet holes in your combine or semi. Now everyone is posting there land and not letting out of towners hunt on it. It's too bad it ruins it for the good hunters but people are fed up.

More proof the system works as is.

The law abiding hunter does not need permission on unposted land now.

When the law changes he is suddenly a criminal.

Just because it is legal does not make it right.

And no they don't, if they are law abiding like you claim, they wont be on land they don't have permission for will they

Most laws take effect at 12:00 AM on a specified date. I doubt there will be any hunters out on un-posted land at that hour. Besides, they’ll have been given plenty of notice to the proposed changes well in advance to avoid such a situation.

You are correct, you don’t get it. It’s got nothing to do with your apartment. It does have to do with Saskatchewan landowners and their traditional and respected relationship with hunters. The law as it exists was enacted to allow hunters and game management to manage the number of deer to minimize impact on farmers by overpopulation and crop destruction. It’s worked well, for the most part, and has resulted in the best “book” deer in the world. The number of farmer complaints, in my area, is minimal to nonexistent about hunters at least, mostly due to me being in one of the zones that restricts vehicles to roads unless retrieving legally killed big game. Sounds like ruts and off-road hunters is an issue in some areas, maybe that’s an easier fix than destroying the long term relationship that exists? Since serm started actively prosecuting off-road hunters in my zone several years ago, the number of driveby hunters has dropped to near zero. I’m more worried about thieves than hunters, I think there are laws on the book that cover that.
If you’ve got 20 sections that you post, and you are paying $20 per sign, you’ve got more acres than brains, wtf? You can buy metal signs for under $6 a piece...
And I sure as hell hope you have the fortitude to stand by your convictions and never apply for predation cash for geese or deer from the government. I’d be pissed to give you my hard earned $ so you could claim your right to every living thing on your land.
Farmers and hunters in Saskatchewan have always had a good relationship, a few idiots as in life, nothings perfect. I guess I take the long view, less hunters, less interest in hunting/firearms, we are f*****.
If you are serious about your no trespassing update, couple of things need to happen:
Every piece of land needs an active contact. Phone number, no corporate names
Rm maps need to be available online, at no cost, with the above for all parcels

1) I wrote 50 quarters not 20 sections.
2) metal sign $6 plus t-post $9 plus u-bolts $3 plus assembly equals $20 plus travel time and labour placing and retrieving signs.
3) Way back in 1989 two Americans showed up at the farm shop needing help tracking down some land owners, I was fifteen years old. Using the RM map and the phone book it took all of twenty minutes to get them permission to hunt on twenty four sections of land from five different farmers, I mean wow what a burden that was.
4) You talk about this respectful relationship but you imply that I’m stupid and greedy simply for wanting a two minute conversation. What you maybe don’t understand is that most of the really good hunting land within my area at least is all but off limits to hunters and has been for the last 10-15 years unless you know them personally or you get your cheque book out.
5) I’ve never claimed wildlife damage on my crops, used to get some damage from geese but hardly anyone swaths wheat anymore around here, geese tend to like the harvested fields better. So ya don’t think you’re doing me any favours.
6) Need RM maps for a large area? Phone Bradley Directories in Plenty, he’ll hook you up.

Yep your right there it is again, your BS belief that you have a right to use something that is not yours and you did not pay for

Shawn

Now who is spouting BS? Show me where I said it was anybody's right to access private land.

You don't want your truck accessed, you lock it.

You don't want your house accessed, you lock it.

You don't want your shop accessed, you lock it.

You don't want your land accessed, you cry for government assistance.

Alright, starting at the top. I just assumed you don’t have 50 quarters in one continuous block, if you do, magic and good on ya.
I don’t know what happens to your tposts u bolts and signs every year? Hit them with a combine? Mine last for years, and with 50 quarters, you know that’s a business expense right?
And yes, total agreement, back in 89 you could look at an rm map, grab the phone book and start calling. What’s your farm listed as on the rm map? Do you even live in the same rm as all of your land?
Most of your good hunting land is posted, so why care about the rest... and you may not want to charge cash for hunting privileges in sask, might get in a bit of hot water.
As for 5, you are one of the few then...
And your final point, that’s great, does he list contact names and numbers or is he just reselling rm maps for a profit? Mine have copyright notices on them for some unknown reason, likely a poorly thought out law. Be illegal to sell them without permission...

So you don't lock up because it is illegal to access your truck, house and shop?

I already own more than enough land to hunt on.

I'm just not butt hurt over others using it as well. I don't feel the need to have my ego stroked.

Now you’ve really gone off the rails. This is just getting sad.

Who is asking for government assistance? Where do you dream up this baloney?

I don’t have my shop, truck, or house accessed by self entitled Saskawhiners because there are some reasonable laws in place making it illegal. Soon, that same type of law will apply to my other private property.

I don’t know any farmers that fit that description, other than yourself.

It likely hasn’t occurred to you (and likely never will), but we want this trespass law changed because we just want to be left alone, nothing to do with “ego stroking”. Lol.

You are right you are not butt hurt over people using your land. You are butt hurt over not being able to use other people's land you did not pay for without asking. Your BS straw men arguments get more and more stupid the longer you try and claim the moral high ground that you have a right to use other peoples property without permission. Its sad, the thing you are crying about happening is going to happen because of people like you LOL

Many city folk have no respect for private property in the country. If they're out of eyesight of a lived in dwelling, and there's no fence, they consider it free game.
In some cases it's out of ignorance, and some lack that ever elusive "common sense".
