Curious, How many people stayed up to preorder as soon as they were put up on TI's site? I know I did and I'm guessing bfiles, anyone else?

Some of us want a type 81 because it is what it is, not because it is almost what it isn't.

Well put! I filled my sks wants, filled my 858 wants and now I'm filling my t81 want. It's as close as I'm gonna get to an AK without bankrupting myself with a Valmet. Can't wait for them to arrive.

Forward of the front sight....is that a sleeve over the barrel, or is the barrel itself ribbed like that? If it is a sleeve, does anyone know approximately how far the barrel extends past the front sight block?

Ribbed sleeve. The NR barrel extends .75 inches farther than the standard barrel length.

ignore the first post after yours, the ribbing is a sleeve, this was covered extensively before this thread was cleaned up. if you look at close up pics you can see where it is held in place by a pin
