Except this isn't an AK in any way. Even parts that should be standard AK (like the folding stock) are different in several ways. It's odd. They've entirely started over.

I ordered 2. Fixed and folding. I hope they come with oil bottles. I might order 2 more for investment purposes. I did that when the Chinese sks was available and have a couple still in the cosmo.

:) me too ;-)

Oh the sks thing again...

SKS or not, the reason Norincos M305's are so profoundly popular is that they are half to a third the price of a Springfield....in terms of price, this is pretty on par with the Czech rifles. Mind you a new one is a few bucks more...but the platform is well established and parts are relatively plentiful. I just can't justify it. Was actually really pumped until I saw the price. There is no reason that this would be more expensive to manufacture than an M14. No way.

So you compare an apple to an apple and expect an apple to oranges comparison to be the same?

A norc 305 and springfield m14 are the same operating system and platform, built at different quality levels.

The sks and Type 81 are different platforms all together, with operating systems that in whole are different, but just happen to shoot the same round.

Just like a vz58 isn't an sks.

As for production costs, there have been far more semi auto M305's made than new receiver type 81's. That is a new production piece ordered in a smaller quantity than the 305 by far. Higher production, lower cost.

exactly...if we were getting surplus Type 81 rifles, they would not be as expensive...but we don't get automatic surplus, so you get what you get...i'm happy with the price I paid, since the CZ 858 is priced about the same...guns went up, and ammo went up by the same amount....the price would have surprised me 5 years ago, but not today...
